Comedy queen who rose to fame playing Titli Yadav in ‘The Kapil Sharma show’, before going on to ace acts and appearances in ‘Jhalak Dikhla Jaa’, ‘Nach Baliye’ and ‘Fear Factor’, Bharti Singh is known for her easy sense of humour and amazing caricature skills. Known for spreading smiles, Bharti Singh who turns a year older today, however, did not have a very happy childhood herself. While she may bring a smile on our faces and joy in our lives, the talented actress and comedian herself had an uphill task in gaining popularity.
For starters, her mother thought of aborting her when she was conceived. Bharti hails from an extremely poor family. The youngest of three children, the comedian had once revealed during an interview that her mother had tried various means of aborting her, but none were a success. However, once born, her mum never let Bharti feel unwanted.
Moreover, Bharti's father passed away when she was only two-years-old and her mum only 22. Her mum had to work in a factory to feed her three hungry children, with Bharti once admitting, "I have grown up listening to the irritating sounds of a sewing machine day in and day out. It still haunts me, whenever I hear it on the roadside.”
Disturbed by the situation at home, Bharti Singh used to go to NCC camps to stay away from home and it was here comedian Sudesh Lahiri offered her first role in a play after spotting her in a park playing. Following this, Rajiv Thakur offered her another role.
It was Kapil Sharma who motivated Bharti to go for an audition for ‘The Great Indian Laughter Challenge’ which got her recognition, fame and openings for later shows and other avenues. Bharti is not insecure about her weight and has also appeared in a body lotion advertisement. But what made the TVC (television commercial) different was the way it trashes body shamming and the entire concept of a ’36-24-36′ figure. The comedian also walked the ramp during Lakme Fashion Week 2016 for designers Ashish and Shefali, promoting body positivity. The same event saw actress Sunny Leone, transgender activist Laxmi Narayan Tripathi and veteran dancer Helen on the ramp.
Known to be able to crack jokes about her own weight, Bharti has been leading the way for women and their representation, donning everything from gown with risqué slits, asymmetrical skirts and even miniskirts. The comedian also managed to stun everyone by her sartorial choice on her wedding when she selected a bright pink lehenga, azure coloured choli and an azure bordered dupatta.
While fame and money do not bother Bharti Singh, the one thing the comedian has confessed she worries about is losing her mother.
Finally, Bharti's marriage with Haarsh Limbachiyaa on December 3, 2017, was sponsored by the couple who divided the cost equally. Apparently, Haarsh wanted the marriage to be a low-key ceremony but Bharti being a Punjabi at heart wanted a grand celebration for which the couple paid themselves.
Haarsh has left no stone unturned to make her wifey, Bharti's big day a special one. In the most adorable way, Haarsh took to Instagram to wish Bharti and wrote, "Happy birthday my love my baby my life @bharti.laughterqueen".
Bharti and Haarsh, who got married in 2017, met each other around nine years ago on the set of Comedy Circus. Bharti was a contestant on this show while Haarsh was a scriptwriter.
