The government is set to implement stricter guidelines for processing transactions and chargebacks. In addition, there will be changes in the terms of the Chargeback process and cooling period. While penalties take effect today, the exact implementation date for the chargeback rule will be announced later. Scroll down to learn about the important changes and how you can avoid penalties.

6 Important FASTag Changes You Need To Be Aware Of

Here are the important changes you should know:

Delayed Transactions Can Lead To Penalties

Fastag users may incur additional charges if their toll transactions are processed after 15 minutes. According to updated National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) guidelines, if the transactions are delayed and the user’s FASTag account has insufficient balance, the toll operator will be held responsible, not the user.

Grace Period

The users will now be given a 70-minute window to fix their FASTag status before reaching the toll booth.

Backlisting Impact

If a FASTag is backlisted at the toll, the users will have to pay double toll charges as per the new rule. However, if the recharge is processed within 10 minutes of scanning, users can ask for a penalty refund.

15 Day Cooling Period For Chargebacks

Users disputing incorrect deductions or transactions will have to wait for 15 days before raising a chargeback request with their bank.

The system will automatically reject the payments from inactive or hotlisted Fastags with reason code 176, preventing toll deductions. Users are advised to maintain a sufficient balance, track deduction times, and check Fastag status before travelling to prevent transaction failures.
