Cut to the news of 807 people missing in Delhi, including 137 children, which started circulating all over social media. According to multiple posts on social media, hundreds of people started disappearing in the first 27 days of January 2026.

The story of this frightening news started on January 10, 2026. On this day, Yash Raj Films released the poster for their upcoming film ‘Mardaani 3’. The trailer dropped for this movie two days later, and its plot revolved around missing people. As soon as the movie hit theatres on January 30, 2026, the internet was flooded with news of missing children in Delhi by February 1, 2026. Tweets started flooding in from X, then  Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram. Soon enough, news channels also started picking up on this sensational chatter.

Delhi Police On The Hundreds Of Missing People Reports

With news spreading across all digital platforms, the country became alarmed and frightened to step out of their homes. In the new statement that the Delhi Police authorities have released today, about the connection between the surge in these reports on social media and the ‘Mardani 3’ movie. Their statement on X read, “After following a few leads, we discovered that the hype around the surge in missing girls in Delhi is being pushed through paid promotion. Creating panic for monetary gains won't be tolerated, and we'll take strict action against such individuals.”

Till now, no one from the team of ‘Mardaani 3’ has spoken on the matter at hand. 

An earlier Delhi Police initially released a statement on X saying, “Recent public discourse has raised concerns about the welfare of children in Delhi. We appeal to the citizens not to fall prey to the rumours about the spurt in the cases of missing children. 

While denying such claims, we also warn rumour mongers of strict legal action for creating unnecessary panic and fear by misrepresenting data.
