Ramayana has been a great epic that has been considered to be one of the holiest books of the Hindus. For years on a stretch, we have heard stories related to this epic. From being an infant to being a grown-up adult, we have been fed with information that is related to the epic and the people that had been involved in the rescuing Maa Sita from the captures of Ravana.
There has been a mention of Devi Shanta but who was she? What was her relation to the epic? Here’s a brief about the same!
Who Was Devi Shanta?
Devi Shanta was the daughter of Maharaj Dasharatha and Queen Kaushalya. Maharaj Dasharatha had two other queens namely Kaikeyi and Samitra, who according to everyone's information, had four sons Ram, Lakshmana, Bharata, and Shatrughna.
But there was an elder sister as well, who was hardly mentioned anywhere. Shanta was a very promising girl, perfect in every field, she had a unique knowledge in every field.
According to ancient beliefs, Devi Shanta was adopted by King Dasharatha to King Rompad of Angadesh. Once when King Rompad of Angadesh came to Ayodhya along with his wife to meet King Dasharatha, he came to know that Raja Rajarompada had no children. Realizing the pain of not having children, King Dasharatha gave away his elder daughter, Shanta to the couple. This is how Shanta became the princess of Anga country.

When Devi Shanta Was Married
Shanta's unique knowledge of the Vedas and arts and crafts was a plus to the fact that she was very beautiful. One day King Rompad was busy having a conversation with Shanta when a boy from the Brahmin caste came to ask the king for help in farming during monsoon days.
Raja Romapada did not pay heed to the request of the Brahmin boy. Angered by his neglect, the Brahmin left from there. Indra dev, the god of rain, also got angry with this insult to his devotee. Making it a major reason for receiving very little rainfall during the monsoon season. There was an outcry due to the drought.
To get rid of this problem, Romapada went to Rishi Shringa. Romapada requests Shringa to perform a yagya. The yagya is performed according to the words of Shring, after which the country receives rain and the problem of drought is brought to an end. Pleased with this, Raja Rompad married his daughter Devi Shanta to Shringa.
