This year’s rainfall around India has wreaked havoc. Houses have been destroyed, lives have been lost, and the fury does not seem to slow its pace. Currently, Delhi, the capital of India, is submerged under the water of the Yamuna River, and people have flooded the internet with images and videos.
Why Is Delhi NCR Flooded?

Regions of Delhi-NCR are flooded due to water-logging and overflowing Yamuna. With several parts of India witnessing high amounts of rainfall in 2023, cities like Gurugram and Noida are witnessing pools and waterfalls being created, showcasing poor planning on the part of authorities. It is also not the first that the people of Gurugram are experiencing this issue. Even a small amount of rainfall leaves the vehicle submerged under water or floating.

Delhi was already experiencing water-logging in many parts. However, overflowing Yamuna has left the capital inundated, leaving people in the low-lying areas displaced, lost, and crying for their belongings.
There are two barrages on the Yamuna River - one in Hathnikund in Haryana, and the second in Dakpathar in Uttarakhand. With no dams created to control the flow of the water body, most of the monsoon water remains utilised and leads to flooding.
This breach is causing flooding of ITO and surroundings. Engineers have been working whole nite. I have directed the Chief Secretary to seek help of Army/NDRF but this shud be fixed urgently https://t.co/O8R1lLAWXX
