Prime Minister Narendra Modi has addressed the nation today via video. He has spoken in detail about the Coronavirus crisis and how we can curtail it from spreading. PM Modi began his speech by congratulating the people of India for their “unprecedented discipline” during the lockdown.

PM Modi has also urged the people to turn off the lights of their homes and light a candle or a lamp on their doorsteps or in the balcony, on April 5, 2020. He said even though we are locked in our homes, but we are not alone. Country’s 1.3 billion people are together during this hard time. PM Modi also said that we have to dispel the darkness spread by the deadly virus and give hope to underprivileged people who are impacted the most.
“On April 5, we will all come together to give COVID-19 a message. All of us must come together at 9 pm on April 5 for nine minutes to turn off the lights and light a candle, torch or mobile flashlight in the balconies. This is our message that we are all in this together and we will fight COVID-19,” PM Modi said.

Earlier, he spoke with the chief ministers of all states to form a common exit strategy once lockdown ends. He also urged them to focus on testing, tracing, isolation and quarantine to minimise the loss of life due to COVID-19. PM Modi also emphasised on the importance of social distancing and said it is the only way to prevent this deadly virus from spreading.
This is the third time in two weeks when the prime minister addressed the country on coronavirus.Earlier, addressing the nation on efforts to combat the novel coronavirus on 23 March, PM Modi had announced a 21 day nationwide lockdown and on March 19, he had asked all countrymen to participate in Janta curfew.
