In a reel shared by the official Instagram handle of the Humans of Bombay, fashion influencer Uorfi Javed revealed that even as a teenager she was stopped from dressing a certain way. She said her father once beat her until she was unconscious.
Being mentally and physically abused at home had broken the influencer to an extent that she even tried to commit suicide at one point. She left her home at the age of 17 and came to New Delhi.
She had no job, therefore, started taking tuition to sustain herself in the capital. When she came to Mumbai, she did odd jobs, stayed at friends’ houses and gave multiple interviews and auditions before finding her way into a TV serial.

Her big break came after she appeared as a contestant on Bigg Boss OTT. Though she got evicted within a week and had no job, Javed did not lose hope and started experimenting with clothes.
She was mercilessly trolled and gets obscene comments on her images and videos even today. But she was done being a victim and said, “But not caring about faceless people’s opinions on the Internet, I kept embracing myself and expressed self-acceptance through my choice.”
Uorfi Javed is not the only person who has been through this ordeal. Many celebrities in the past have opened up about being molested as kids.
Fatima Sana Shaikh
Fatima Sana Shaikh once recalled being abused as a three-year-old. She said, “There is a whole stigma around the whole sexual abuse issue, which is why women don’t open up about being exploited in life.”
She said the world is changing today as people are becoming more aware of these things. She added, “Pehle toh yahi kaha jata tha that don’t speak about it (Initially, people used to hush victims to not speak about the abuse in the open).”
Kangana Ranaut
While hosting Lock Upp, Kangana Ranaut shared that she was inappropriately touched as a kid. She said she did not know about it, and many kids go through the same ordeal.
When Munawar Faruqui opened up about experiencing abuse, she shared, “This guy was three to four years older than me, perhaps he was exploring his sexuality. He would call us, get us all to strip and check us. We would not understand it at that time. There is a huge stigma behind this, especially for men.”
Neena Gupta
In her autobiography, Sach Kahun Toh, actor Neena Gupta wrote how terrified she was to share with her mother that a doctor and a tailor had abused her when she was in school.
She wrote that the doctor first examined her with his eyes and then checked out other areas of her body. “I sat in a corner in the house and cried my eyes out when nobody was looking.”
She also wrote about the tailor who was “too handsy” with his instruments.
Anurag Kashyap
In an old interview, Anurag Kashyap said he was harassed as an 11-year-old. He said, “I met him after many years. He wasn’t some dirty old man. He was 22 when he abused me. He was guilt-ridden when we met.”
Kalki Koechlin
Kalki Koechlin revealed that she allowed someone to have sex with her when she was only nine. She did not understand what it all meant, and her biggest fear was what if her mother found it out. She was convinced it was all her fault and kept it hidden for years.
She added, “It’s important that parents remove the taboo around the word sex or private parts so kids can speak openly and be saved from potential abuse.”
Akshay Kumar
Akshay Kumar once revealed that a liftman touched him inappropriately when he was a kid. When he told his father an FIR was filed, and the abuser was arrested. He said that even as an adult, he finds it difficult to say “bum.”

Deepika Padukone
Sharing the incident, Deepika Padukone revealed that as a 14-year-old, a man brushed past her when she was returning from a restaurant with her family. “I could have, at that point, pretended like it didn’t happen. I turned back, followed this person, caught him by the collar - I was 14 - in the middle of the street, slapped him and walked away.”
