Blood Moon is one of the most fascinating celestial events that compels scientists to study more about it. Also, known as the total Lunar Eclipse, this year, it is all set to occur on March 14, 2025. A lunar eclipse occurs when the Sun, Earth, and Moon align so that the Moon passes into Earth’s shadow. However, in a total lunar eclipse, the entire Moon falls within the darkest part of Earth’s shadow, called the umbra. When the Moon is within the umbra, it looks red-orange, and thus, is referred to as ‘Blood Moon’.
Blood Moon 2025 Time In India
The eclipse will begin at 9:27 am IST and will reach its peak at 12:28 pm IST, and end by 3:30 pm IST. The eclipse will not be visible from India, as it occurs during daylight hours when the moon is below the horizon. The best views are expected in South andNorth America, where the total eclipse will last over 65 minutes. However, for the celestial event enthusiasts, this event will stream live on social media platforms. Additionally, Indian astronomers expect a full lunar eclipse on September 7-8, 2025, which will be visible throughout the country.

Lunar Eclipse 2025 Visibility In India
The Lunar Eclipse will be visible across the night side of the Earth with the best views in North and South America. However, some parts of Europe will also see it at moonset, and East Asia will see it at moonrise. Some parts of Australia and South Africa will also witness the blood moon.
According to NASA, here are the places where Blood Moon will be visible:
North America: United States, Canada, Mexico
South America: Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia
Western Europe: Parts of Spain, Portugal, France
Western Africa: Countries such as Cape Verde, Morocco, and Senegal
Atlantic Ocean Region: Visible from ships and islands in the Atlantic
Here are the places where there will be partial visibility:
Eastern Europe: Before the moonset.
East Asia: At the moonrise.
Australia: Partial visibility.
Africa (beyond Western Africa): Partial eclipse.
Asia (beyond East Asia): Limited visibility.
