Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme was launched by the Ministry Of Women And Child Development, Government of India in the year 2015. The key objectives of the scheme were to prevent sex selective abortion, protection of the girl child, education of the girl child, and increase in girl children's participation in the field of sports.
Ever since the introduction, the government of India is promoting campaigns like 'Save Girl Child', 'Education Girl Child' under the scheme. The scheme is being implemented under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Ministry of Human Resource Development.
Target Group Of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme
The scheme aims to focus on three groups-
1. Primary group includes young mothers, newly married couples, lactating mothers, and expecting mothers.
2. Secondary group includes doctors, in-laws, nursing homes, private hospitals, and diagnostic centres.
3. Third or the tertiary group includes media, voluntary organisations, general public, women self help groups, religious leaders, and medical associations.
Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Yojna Or Scheme - Key Features
- The scheme was initially introduced to improve the child gender ratio in states like Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. The scheme further expanded to areas like Patna, Bhojpur, Nawada, Banka, and Nalanda among others.
- The yojna aims to encourage community participation in the growth and birth of a girl child.
- One of the key features is to promote girl's participation in the field of education.
- BBBP scheme also aims to safeguard girl child in the country by preventing acts like female infanticide and foeticide.
- It prevents child marriage and safety of girl child from physical and mental harrassment.
Who Is Eligible For Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme?
- Families with a girl child below 10 years of age are eligible for the scheme.
- The family should have opened a Sukanya Samriddhi Account in any Indian bank in the name of the girl child.
- The girl child should be a resident of India. NRI citizens aren't eligible for this scheme.
Documents Required For Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme
- Birth certificate issued by any government body or a hospital.
- Proof of identity of the parents - ration card or aadhar card.
- Proof of address - telephone bill, electricity bill, water bill, passport
- Passport size photograph of the parents
How To Apply For Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme
One can easily apply for the scheme by visiting the post office or bank where this scheme is available. The application form should be submitted along with all the documents to open an account on the girl child's name.

Benefits Of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme
- The account opened for the girl child under this scheme is completely tax free.
- This account can be exclusively used for parents to save money for their daughters for their education and marriage in future.
- With this yojna, you also register for the SSA or Sukanya Samriddhi account.
- Only the girl child will be allowed to withdraw from this account on turning 18 years of age. The maximum deposit limit per year is ₹1.5 Lakh. The scheme has a 7.6 percent per annum rate of interest that promises the girl financial security.
