Pakistani actress Sanam Saeed had a tough time believing that Bollywood starlet Alia Bhatt’s eagerly awaited role of Roop in Karan Johar's upcoming production had a connection with her. After Alia revealed in an interview given to PTI that while preparing for her role of Roop in Kalank she was asked to observe Sanam Saeed’s character in one of her TV serials, Sanam tweeted out the story saying that she was ‘tickled pink’ if this was true. Alia has talked about her elaborate preparations for the role of Roop which is very layered and unlike anything that she has done before. Alia is one of the female leads in Kalank which also stars actresses Madhuri Dixit, Sonakshi Sinha and Kriti Sanon. Indeed it will be a tough job for Alia to make her presence felt. No wonder then that she is doing everything it takes to get her look, language and mannerisms right.

Who Is Sanam Saeed?

Pakistani actress Sanam Saeed is a singer and former model who came into the limelight with her role in the 2013 TV drama Zindagi Gulzar Hai in which she played the lead opposite Fawad Khan. The serial was a huge hit and became a favourite of the Indian audiences too when it was aired in the country. Sanam, who had played the role of a very matured middle-class girl Kashaf Murtaza, had earned many accolades for her portrayal and her pairing with Fawad created much hype. While Fawad had brief innings in Bollywood with the movie Kapoor and Sons where he starred with Alia Bhatt, Sanam had also expressed a desire to star in Bollywood movies back then if the role appealed to her. The Role Should Not Be Irritating, Alia Was Told

Talking about her preparation for the role of Roop in Kalank, Alia said that the similarity of Sanam’s role in Zindagi Gulzar Hai was the reason behind drawing inspiration from the character. Just like Sanam’s character, Roop has a lot of responsibility on her shoulders which makes her unhappy most of the time.

Kalank director Abhishek Verman, who has earlier directed Alia in his 2014 movie 2 States with Arjun Kapoor, had told her to look at Sanam’s role for her preparation. “Roop’s character is vulnerable yet strong. It is difficult (to bring so many) layers - unhappy, vulnerable and strong to a character. Abhishek kept saying that I should not be irritating."

Alia Bhatt has also revealed that she had heard about the concept of Kalank back when she was shooting in 2012 for her debut movie Student Of The Year but was properly told about the script much later. It was then that she realised that the role had been written keeping her in mind, she says, adding that the process of the film going to her was very organic.

Kalank is all set to release on April 17 and we can’t wait to watch how Alia’s character will pan out in the story. To know more about upcoming movie releases and interesting updates from your favourite stars, keep watching Her Zindagi.
