Unsafe In School: Akola Teacher Arrested For Molesting And Showing Obscene Videos To 6 Minor Girls

Another horrific incident of sexual abuse against minor females took place in the Akola district of Maharashtra where clothing or staying out till late at night were not the protagonists. Reportedly, a male teacher in his 40s had been forcefully exposing 6 female students to obscene videos within the school premises. As soon as the parents were notified by the children about the persistent molestation, the teacher was arrested by the local police. Keep reading to know more.

Akola Teacher Molests 6 Girls

Days after the Badlapur outrage resulted from the rape of 2 kindergarten students, another terrifying incident has surfaced. A 40-something-year-old male teacher, Pramod Manohar Sardar was arrested on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, on the charges of showing obscene videos to 6 minor girls. The incident took place at the Zilla Parishad School at Kazikheda hamlet in Balapur, Maharashtra.

The Superintendent of Akola Police Bachchan Singh mentioned to ANI, "Akola Police received a complaint of molestation of 6 school girls by Pramod Manohar Sardar, a teacher of the Zilla Parishad School in Kajikhed. Police immediately arrested the accused teacher and recorded the statements of the victim girls. Cases under sections 74 and 75 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita and POCSO Act were registered. Further investigation is underway."

According to the FIR (File FIR Within 6 Hours) that was filed at the Ural police station by the girls, the teacher had been molesting them for four months by showing them inappropriate videos and touching them non-consensually. However, the heinous act was exposed after the complainant dialled the 1098 Helpline number of the Child Welfare Committee. After the members of the committee visited the school on Tuesday morning to speak to the girls, a case was registered. Asha Mirge, a former member of the State Women's Commission, demanded the guilty person’s arrest.The principal has stated that the school authorities were unaware of the act and as soon as it came to light, action was taken.

Impact Of Obscene Videos On Children

After such cases where children are exposed to obscene videos, they are left with a grave impact. To know more about this, we spoke to Garima Mehra, Counselling Psychologist and Founder of Mannosarthi "A seed of mental Well-being."

She expressed, “The Akola case, where teacher Pramod Manohar Sardar showed obscene videos to six schoolgirls, highlights the severe impact such exposure can have on children. When children come across explicit material, it can be confusing and frightening, distorting their understanding of relationships and sexuality. Their young minds aren’t ready to process this kind of content, which can lead to long-term emotional and psychological harm. Over time, this exposure might cause anxiety, behavioural issues, and unhealthy views of intimacy. It can also affect their understanding of consent and respect in relationships, complicating their social development. It’s crucial for parents, educators, and society as a whole to protect children from these harmful experiences and create a safe environment that supports their healthy growth.”
