Onam is a festival celebrated in the southern part of India, especially in Kerala. Onam is an annual Indian harvest festival. It is a festival that brings happiness, joy, and love together and people celebrate it with a lot of enthusiasm. During this festival, people indulge in various rituals and traditions and engage in feasting as well. There are several dishes prepared during this festival, but some of the easy tasty snack recipes are as follows:

1. Ela Ada

Ela Ada

Ela Ada is a Traditional Kerala delicacy. This snack is made of rice flour, coconut, jaggery, and cardamom. It is steamed in banana leaves and is a delicious and healthy snack.

Ingredients Of Ela Ada

1 cup of rice flour

1/2 cup of jaggery

1/2 cup of grated coconut

1/2 tsp of cardamom powder

1 tsp ghee/oil

Salt to taste

Banana leaves

How To Make Ela Ada:

1. In a bowl, mix together rice flour and salt with just enough water to make a dough.

2. In a separate pan, melt the jaggery with some water to make a thick syrup.

3. Add the grated coconut, cardamom powder and ghee/ oil to the jaggery syrup and mix well.

4. Divide the rice flour dough into equal-sized portions and flatten each one into a small disc.

5. Place a spoonful of the jaggery-coconut mixture in the center of each disc.

6. Fold the edges over the filling to form a packet. Use a little water on your fingers to seal the edges.

7. Cut the banana leaves into squares and place a folded Ela Ada on each square.

8. Steam the Ela Adas for around 10-12 minutes or until they become soft and tender.

9. Serve the Ela Adas hot and enjoy their delicious taste and aroma.

2. Pazham Pori

Pazham Pori

Pazham Pori is a delicious snack made of ripe plantains, jaggery, and spices. It is a popular snack in the South Indian state of Kerala and is also known as Banana Fritters. It is deep-fried and is a sweet and savoury snack that is perfect for Onam.

Ingredients For Pazham Pori:

2 ripe bananas, peeled and sliced

1/2 cup jaggery, grated

1 tsp cardamom powder

How To Make Pazham Pori:

Achappam recipe

Achappam is a traditional Kerala snack made of rice flour, coconut, and sugar. It is a type of pancake that is made in a special pan called an achappam pan.

Ingredients For Achappam:

2 cups rice flour

3/4 cup sugar

1 tbsp sesame seeds

2 tsp cumin seeds

1 egg

2 cups coconut milk

Oil for frying

How To Make Achappam:

1. In a large bowl, mix together the rice flour, sugar, sesame seeds, cumin seeds and salt.

2. Now add the egg and whisk it in.

3. Gradually add the coconut milk and stir until you get a smooth, thick batter.

4. Heat oil in a deep frying pan or wok.

5. Dip the Achappam mould in the hot oil for a few seconds until it becomes hot.

6. Carefully dip the mould into the batter, about 2/3 of the way up the sides, without touching the bottom of the mould.

7. Quickly place the mould into the hot oil, and swirl the mould gently in a circular motion so that the batter coats the entire mould.

8. Fry until the Achappam is golden brown.

9. Remove from the oil and place on a wire rack to cool, then repeat the process until all of the batter is used.

10. Serve Achappam to your guests with a hot cup of tea or coffee.
