Frying food might taste lip-smacking but is loaded with oil. In order to make the food crispy and delicious, it is deep fried which makes it absorb large amounts of oil. Right from fritters to our favourite finger chips, Indians are crazy for fried food.
You might savour your fried food but it also brings with itself a number of health risks. People who consume fried food on a regular basis usually suffer from weight gain, diabetes, high cholesterol and heart diseases. Now what to do if you wish to eat your favourite fried food but don’t want to consume all the extra oil? Well, here are some tips by which you can bake or steam your food instead of frying, and get the exact same taste, that too without the use of oil.
French Fries
Easy to munch and gobbled down in minutes, french fries is probably everybody’s favourite snack. We are all guilty of eating oil-loaded fries which contributes to those extra inches on our waists. Next time you plan to make french fries, try this recipe of baked fries which will give the snack a healthy twist.
- Step 1- Cut your fries like you usually do.
- Step 2- Soak them in cold water for 30 minutes to remove starch.
- Step 3- Pat them dry with a help of a clean cloth or kitchen towel.
- Step 4- Now spread a baking sheet on your oven tray and spread one tablespoon of oil on it
- Step 5- Lay your potatoes on the tray and season them with spices.
- Step 6- Now bake it in the oven for about 15 minutes (300-375°F) and your crispy french fries are ready to be served.

Samosa
Another fried food which leaves every Indian craving for more is samosa. These triangle shaped flavoursome snacks, when served with mint chutney on the side are irresistible to ignore. Samosa too is fried, which leaves us in a dilemma whether to eat more or not. The below given recipe will help you bake your own samosas with almost no oil involved.
- Step 1- Prepare the outer covering for the samosas by kneading flour, ghee, ajwain and salt together. Cover it with a cloth and let it rest for 10 minutes.
- Step 2- Now prepare your stuffing by combining boiled potatoes, peas, amchur powder, garam masala, jeera, chilli powder and salt.
- Step 3- Roll the dough into small chapatis and cut them into halves.
- Step 4- Stuff them with the prepared filling and give them a conical shape.
- Step 5- Now grease a baking tray and arrange your samosas on it.
- Step 6- Bake them in a preheated oven for 15 minutes (375°F) and your healthy-baked samosas are ready.

Kadhi Pakore
A gentle drizzle of rain and a steaming plate of kadhi rice is probably one the best combos. Pakoras added to the kadhi acts like a cherry on the top. Yet again, pakoras too are deep fried which makes us think twice before eating them. The below given trick will help in making non-fried pakore which will let you relish the kadhi in a guilt-free manner.
- Step 1- Prepare your kadhi the usual way and put it on high flame.
- Step 2- Create a mixture for your pakore by mixing besan, dahi, red chili, haldi, coriander powder and salt. Mix it together and make sure you prepare a very thick batter.
- Step 3- Add a teaspoon of oil and baking soda to make your batter fluffier.
- Step 4- Make small balls from the batter and drop it in your boiling kadhi.
- Step 5- Once all your pakoras are placed in the pan, cover the lid and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes.
- Step 6- Don’t stir your kadhi, otherwise your pakore will get spoilt.
This recipe will give you perfectly steamed pakore which will give tough competition to fried pakore in terms of taste.
