National Film Award: On August 24, 2023, all the winners of the 69th National Film Awards were announced at 5 pm. Indian films and actors won big for their portrayal of layered characters on the silver screen.

Allu Arjun For ‘Pushpa: The Rise’

Indian actor Allu Arjun won the Best Actor for his ‘Pushpa: The Rise’. Available on Amazon Prime Video, the film revolves around the character of Pushpa who gets involved in the smuggling of red sandalwood, one of the most precious trees available in the southern parts of India. The first part of the film was released in 2021 in multiple languages and garnered a lot of praise from the audience.
Alia Bhatt For ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’

Released in 2022, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ is a film about a young woman whose boyfriend cheated on her and sold her to a brothel. Taking control of her life and of the brothel, Gangubai, played by Alia Bhatt rises, makes underworld connections, and uses them to help sex workers and their kids. The film has bagged Bhatt the Best Actor award.
Kriti Sanon For Mimi

Kriti Sanon is sharing the award with Alia Bhatt. She is bestowed with the title of the Best Actor for her film ‘Mimi’. The movie revolves around a young woman who wanted to become an actor but did not belong to a financially strong background.
An acquaintance suggested she become a surrogate mother for a foreign couple. However, when the couple found out that the baby might be born differently abled, they asked her to abort the baby. The movie is about how Mimi gave birth to the baby, brought him up, and fought for him when the couple returned to claim him after a few years learning that he was born without disabilities.

Vicky Kaushal’s ‘Sardar Udham’

Other films that won big at the award show included Shoojit Sircar’s ‘Sardar Udham’ starring Vicky Kaushal as the lead. It won several awards, including Best Film, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Audiography, and Best Costume Design.
The list of other winners includes Pallavi Joshi for Best Supporting Actress in 'The Kashmir Files', Bhavin Rabari for Best Child Artist in 'Chhello Show', '777 Charlie' for Best Kannada Film, 'Uppena' for Best Telugu Film, 'Rocketry' for Best Feature Film, Pankaj Tripathi for Best Supporting Actor in 'Mimi', and 'RRR' for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment among others.
National awards are announced every year to honour the best talents in the Indian film industry. They are considered the most prestigious awards in the country. The Indian Express quoted the Directorate of Film Festivals of the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the National Film Awards saying that these awards encourage the production of films that promote social relevance and exhibit technical excellence.
