It's been seventeen years since Geet (Kareena Kapoor) missed her train for the first time in her life but boarded on everyone’s hearts and minds ever since. It's rare for a movie to be celebrated and loved for so many years; 17 years and still counting, in Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Jab We Met’. A film with no expiry date, this classic tale of a girl coincidentally meeting a boy wasn't just another rom-com. It was a fun-filled ride served with a plethora of emotions on the platter.
Jab We Met: A Movie That Feels Like Home
Jab We Met is a comfort movie that follows the story of a young, bubbly and delusional woman Geet and an introvert & straightforward Aditya (Shahid Kapoor) and their journey of experiencing romance rooted in friendship. The film’s recent re-release proved that it's going to hold a forever place in everyone’s heart, a movie that never gets old!
Do We Need A Sequel To Jab We Met?
It’s been a while since several media reports claimed a sequel to the cult classic Jab We Met. However, no confirmation was to be found on the second instalment of the film and the big question remains - why? Wasn't the ‘Love Aaj Kal’ debacle enough to understand that some movies are better in their original self and hence, should remain untouched? Another big question is can the audience imagine anyone else to play Geet other than Kareena Kapoor?
Imtiaz Ali Expressed His Reluctance To Make Jab We Met’s Sequel
Imtiaz Ali, celebrated for his rich storytelling and memorable characters recently shared his thoughts on the possibility of a sequel to his iconic Jab We Met with India Today.
Reportedly, despite the enduring popularity of the movie, Imtiaz expressed his reluctance to create a sequel of the story, citing his creative vision and respect for the original. "When the film was re-released in theatres last year, people really gave a lot of love. I was shooting in Punjab and I would hear that the audiences were dancing in cinema halls etc. For one minute I would have that feeling, I wish I was there. Now it's been 16 years, and I feel that the film is not mine, it's the audience's film and they celebrate it. I look at 'Jab We Met' like an old friend rather than my own film now,” said Ali in an interview.
Hence, Jab We Met is one of Imtiaz Ali’s gems, a classic stand-alone movie that doesn't need a sequel and must be respected for its originality. Available on Amazon Prime Video, this movie has attained cult status and continues to resonate with viewers across generations.
