This reversed all the chaos caused by Peter’s tampering with the multiverse. Just as the trailer for this third movie dropped, fans quickly started decoding the trailer. Apart from seeing our hero live such a lonesome life, what caught the fans' attention immediately was the ‘cocoon’ Peter was surrounded by in his apartment. Let’s dive in to find out what the ‘cocoon’ means in the ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ movie, and see the fan theories about ‘Man-Spider’ here!
One of the most-awaited Marvel movies releasing in 2026 has to be this third Spidey movie. The movie is all set to be released on the big screens on July 31, 2026. According to the IMDb gist for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, the story will follow, “Peter Parker tries to focus on college and leave Spider-Man behind. But when a new threat endangers his friends, he must break his promise and suit up again, teaming with an unexpected ally to protect those he loves.”

The official trailer for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ just dropped, and fans have been dissecting the trailer to find out more clues about the plot for this movie. One scene from the trailer that has been gaining a lot of attention from Marvel fans is the one with Peter being surrounded by a web in his apartment, like a cocoon. The scene unfolds with him waking up wearing his boxers and being suddenly webbed up in a cocoon outside his apartment window. This scene has gotten fans really hyped for the movie, as now they will get to see their favourite hero use organic webbing as part of his power kit.
With this cocoon scene, we get the idea that Peter is undergoing a significant DNA mutation, forcing him to cocoon to stabilise his new abilities. These new powers will have skills such as organic webbing, enhanced strength, and heightened senses. We even see this DNA mutation being discussed between Parker and Bruce Banner. In the trailer, Bruce about the DNA mutation, saying, “If DNA is mutating, that would be enormously dangerous.”
Stemming from the now-famous ‘cocoon’ scene, Marvel fans now believe that the movie might be shifting in a direction where Peter will become ‘Man-Spider’. The origins of ‘Man-Spider’ take us back to the animated series around the superhero that was aired back in 1971. With a lot going on in his life, Peter from 1971 decides to let go of his powers, as he thought they were causing more harm than good. Next, we see Peter chug a serum of his own making to wipe out his powers, but to his surprise, the serum enhanced his powers, and he grew out four extra appendages. Further in the series, we see Peter trying to find a cure for his new form, and he turns to Dr Curt Connors (aka the Lizard) for help. He even reveals his secret identity as Spider-Man to the doctor. Ultimately, Peter uses Morbius’ blood to help cure himself of his excessive extremities.

In support of the ‘cocoon’ theory, Marvel fans now think that the story will progress to Peter becoming ‘Man-Spider’. As per a Twitter fan account, @Sksj002, “Phase 1:
Peter develops organic webbing and starts cocooning his body, adapting in extreme ways.
Phase 2:
The mutation worsens. His strength increases, but so does his aggression. He begins losing control, acting more on instinct than logic.
Phase 3:
A partial transformation, physical changes, more spider-like features, and a struggle to hold onto his identity as Spider-Man.
Future Payoff:
A full Man-Spider arc where Peter either completely loses himself… or fights his way back to being human.”
