Directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa (of Dream Girl fame), Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video attempts to blend comedy, romance, and moral lessons in a story about a newlywed couple's misadventures with their intimate video. While the film boasts a talented star cast and moments of genuine humour, it ultimately struggles to maintain its charm throughout its runtime.
Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video Plot
Set in 1997 Rishikesh, then part of Uttar Pradesh, the story follows Vicky (Rajkummar Rao), a mehendi artist, and Vidya (Triptii Dimri), a doctor. Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video presents a comedic yet convoluted tale of Vicky and Vidya, a couple whose quest to preserve their personal memories takes a chaotic turn. The story starts with Vidya’s engagement to a Punjabi guy, Bitto (Manjot Singh), which is abruptly called off. In a twist of fate, she finds herself married to Vicky during a mass wedding. The couple heads to Goa for their honeymoon, where Vicky, in a bid to spice up their marital life, convinces Vidya to record their first night. However, chaos ensues when their honeymoon video goes missing, setting off a frantic search filled with comedy, romance, and a bit of horror.
As the plot thickens, we are introduced to Bulbul Didi (Ashwini Kalsekar), who accidentally obtains the CD from Badshah (the thief who stole it). Despite not knowing Vicky or his family, Bulbul manages to contact them to demand ransom money for the CD—though how she got their number remains questionable.
The kidnappers call Vicky and Vidya to a cemetery for the exchange. With some ghostly twists reminiscent of Stree, Vicky and Vidya finally retrieve the CD, only to discover it’s not their honeymoon video but rather the recording of their first night after the mass marriage organised by Pardesi (Mukesh Tiwari).
Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video Cast and Performances
Rajkummar Rao shines with his great comic timing, reminding me of his role as Bicky in Stree. His one-liners provide some genuine laughs, although they eventually wear thin as the film progresses. Unfortunately, the chemistry between Rao and Dimri lacks depth; their relationship feels underdeveloped, missing the emotional backbone that could have anchored the narrative. Despite her charm, Dimri’s portrayal doesn’t stray much from her previous role in Bad Newzz, leaving me for sure and likely audiences wanting more complexity in her character.
The film’s true heart lies in its ensemble cast. Characters like Laadle (Vijay Raaz), a police inspector, and Bulbul Didi (Ashwini Kalsekar), a don with a quirky sense of humour, steal the show. With supporting performances from Tiku Talsania as Vicky's grandfather and Rakesh Bedi as Vidya's father, along with Archana Puran Singh as Vidya’s mother, the movie is sure to keep a smile on your face, making you forget that the main plot revolves around finding the missing CD.
At some point, I wanted to see more of Vijay Raaz and Mallika Sherawat’s chemistry than the main storyline. The romance between Laadle and Chanda (Mallika Sherawat) is more captivating than that of Vicky and Vidya. Their comedic timing elevates many scenes, making them more memorable than the leads’ romantic escapades.

Screenplay and Cinematography
The film starts on a high note, but as the plot thickens, it loses momentum with overextended gags and unnecessary buildup around the lost CD. The shift from comedy to moral lessons feels forced and somewhat jarring, undermining the film's initial lighthearted charm.
The soundtrack features nostalgic romantic songs that resonate well with the audience, enhancing the film’s emotional beats. However, the placement of songs feels inconsistent, disrupting the narrative flow rather than complementing it.
Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video Review
Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video starts strong but loses steam as it progresses. While it offers plenty of laughs and showcases the talents of its ensemble cast, the film struggles with pacing issues and an overreliance on its central plot device. The attempt to incorporate deeper themes about trust and privacy in relationships feels forced by the end.
For fans of light-hearted Bollywood comedies and those who appreciate the talents of actors like Rajkummar Rao and Vijay Raaz, the film provides entertainment value. However, viewers seeking a more cohesive narrative or deeper exploration of its themes may find themselves wanting more.
In the end, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video is a mixed bag: a comedy with moments of brilliance overshadowed by its inconsistencies and missed opportunities.
