Pathaan: SRK Starrer’s OTT Release Date On Amazon Prime Video & Other Updates

Pathaan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, and Dimple Kapadia, is set to hit the theatres on January 25 and to have an OTT release on Amazon Prime Video later in April. Here are the details on Pathaan’s OTT release, advance booking, and several other updates.

Shah Rukh Khan starrer Pathaanis set to have its digital premiere on Amazon Prime Video on March 22, 2023, at 12AM. The streaming giant also mentioned that the film will simultaneously release in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages.

Merely nine days before its theatrical release Pathaan, the upcoming Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Hindi action drama, was directed to make some changes in the film by the Delhi High Court on January 16, 2023 for its OTT release. Ahead of its streaming on Amazon Prime Video, the film will have to be submitted again to the CBFC for re-certification despite its approval from the Central Board of Film Certification already.

Delhi High Court’s Direction Regarding Pathaan’s OTT Release

The order comes in relation to a petition filed by a group of lawyers, law students, and visually impaired people seeking a direction to Yash Raj Films, OTT platforms, and government to make arrangements so that Pathaan can also be enjoyed by people with hearing and visual disabilities. The court further noted that “the petition raises an important issue about accessibility of entertainment for the visually and hearing impaired people and authorities have an obligation to ensure that content is available for them in accessible formats.”

As per Bar and Bench, the court also added that extra precautions must be taken in the context of movies to ensure that people with disabilities are not denied the opportunity to see films at the theatre.

The Delhi High Court directed the makers of Pathaan, Yash Raj Films to prepare subtitles, closed captioning and audio description in Hindi and submit the same with the CBFC again for re-certification so that hearing and visually impaired people can enjoy the movie on OTT platforms, as per Bar and Bench. However, the court refused to pass any directions as far as Pathaan's screening in theatres is concerned noting that the film is set to be released within a few days on January 25.

The court directed that the above mentioned requirements should be submitted to the CBFC by February 10 and the board should take a decision on the same by March 10.

Further, the court added that the Film Producers' Association and the Indian Broadcasting and Digital Foundation as parties to the lawsuit and instructed them to submit their responses regarding the more general problem of access to entertainment for visually and audibly impaired people.

Advance Booking

As per trade analysts, the advance booking for Pathaan will be open five days in advance on January 20 in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu languages across India in 2D along with premium formats like IMAX, 4DX, D BOX, and ICE versions in Hindi. As per reports, the trailer of Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor’s upcoming film Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar will also be shown ahead of the screenings of Pathaan.

The trailer opens with Kapadia discussing a private terrorist organisation, headed by Abraham, whose sole goal is to destroy India. She divulges that the organisation is preparing a significant strike on India. Abraham sends a final warning. With a little assistance from Padukone, who is revealed to be a "soldier", Pathaan (Khan) is ready to complete the task. The film is also said to be a part of YRF’s spy universe.

Pathaan is one of the most awaited films of 2023 starring Khan who is back after a four-year hiatus after his last film Zero co-starring Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif did not perform well at the box office. However, 2023 is slated to be a blast for SRK fans with three releases including Pathaan, Jawan, and Dunki.

Besides Khan, Abraham also has back to back releases this January. The actor’s upcoming film Tehran with the 2017 Miss World pageant winner Manushi Chillar is set to hit the theatres on January 26.
