When Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal come together for a rom-com drama, what do you expect? A charming story. The trailer for Materialists indicates exactly that. Johnson's character, Lucy, is an ambitious matchmaker, caught between two men: A wealthy Harry Castillo (Pascal) and a struggling actor/waiter named John (Evans). The tension in the air and inside of her forces Lucy to rethink her decisions and introspect her take on love and relationships.
Materialists: What Does The Trailer Show?
The trailer for Materialists, lasting 2:21 minutes, is an endearing watch. It starts with Lucy walking down a road, her gait being confident and straight. A man notices her and she asks him back if he is single, while adding that she is a matchmaker and he can contact her for a suitable bride.
In the following frames, we see Lucy has an established business in New York, with her clientele comprising high-profile people. At one of the weddings she has arranged, Lucy meets the good-looking businessman Castillo, as well as her ex John. The contrast between their profiles is effectively shown in the trailer. Nice touch!
As the trailer progresses, we understand that Lucy has not been able to move on from John and vice versa. Meanwhile, Castillo keeps her hooked on him as well. She describes him as a "unicorn, an impossible fantasy," and because of this chaotic love triangle, Lucy doubts if she is at all good at her job of being the cupid.

Given director-writer Celine Song's expertise in dealing with romantic comedy dramas (her Academy Award-nominated 2023 film Past Lives stands testimony to that fact), we can surely look forward to an engaging film when Materialists hits theatres on June 13, 2025.

As per the gist, Materialists will be about:
"Lucy's expertise in matchmaking is highly sought after by those willing to pay a premium for her services, including New York City elites. At her client's wedding, she meets Harry, a millionaire who happens to be one of the groom's best men. At the same wedding, she meets John, her waiter/struggling actor ex whom she dumped, yet couldn't move on from. The three will eventually be involved in a love triangle that could potentially risk Lucy's career."
Apart from the ones mentioned above, the upcoming film also has Zoë Winters, Marin Ireland, Dasha Nekrasova, Louisa Jacobson, and Sawyer Spielberg, among others, in the cast.
