From women being prisoners of the veil to standing up against domestic violence, this movie shows the harsh reality of small towns and beautifully overcomes all. This Netflix film follows the story of newlywed couple Deepak and Phool who get separated on the train. Phool and another newly-wed bride get swapped due to the veil. It is only revealed when Jaya, whom Deepak mistakenly brings home, lifts her veil and shows her face to the family. Pad Man

Set in the small town of Maheshwar, Madhya Pradesh, this movie brilliantly fights the taboos associated with periods that are prevalent in small towns. Based on the extraordinary life of innovator Arunachalam Muruganantham, this film shows Laxmikant Chauhan (Akshay Kumar) going against the stigma surrounding the use of menstrual pads and creating one from scratch for his wife and all the women to help them switch from cloth and achieve the much-needed menstrual hygiene. The Netflix film's first song Aaj Se Teri tells us that Lakshmi has devotedly given himself over to his wife and will do anything for her, and asks merely for a smile.

Toilet: Ek Prem Katha

Set in the small town of Barsana in Mathura, this Netflix film shows Keshav (Akshay Kumar) going to extreme lengths and even against the whole village to build toilets for his wife Jaya and all the women who reluctantly have to use public places.
