Akshay Kumar is among a few actors in the film industry who did not have Indian citizenship despite his Indian lineage. He held a Canadian passport for which he had been criticised a lot, even called ‘Canadian Kumar’ by many trollers.
While the country was celebrating its 77th Independence Day, the actor took to his social media handles to announce that he received his Indian citizenship. “Dil aur citizenship, dono Hindustani. Happy Independence Day! Jai Hind!” read his caption.
Social Media Reactions To Akshay Kumar Getting His Indian Citizenship
People had positive opinions on Instagram. A user commented that haters had one thing (Canadian Citizenship) to troll him for, now they have nothing. Another person wrote that the actor had enough Canadian jokes.
However, renouncing Canadian citizenship did not settle well with Twitterati. A person added an image from ‘Hera Pheri’ and wrote, “Usually Punjabis go to Canada for Canadian citizenship but you’re the first Punjabi to come back to India from Canada for Indian citizenship. How did you do that?
