Kalki 2898 AD is set in a dystopian future which means there is suffering and mystery all around. For instance, the river Ganga has dried and the people of Kashi struggle to manage basic resources. In Bujji and Bhairava, people are seen using oxygen cylinders to breathe. On the other hand, complex dwellers seem to have an ample supply of everything.

Characters Of The Movie Kalki 2898 AD

Each character in the movie is meticulously framed with Prabhas playing the role of a bounty hunter named Bhairava accompanied by an AI bot named BU-JZ-1 aka Bujji. The voice for this AI bot is given by Keerthy Suresh. Deepika Padukone plays the role of SUM-8- or Sumati which is named after Kalki’s mother in mythology. Amitabh Bachchan plays the role of Ashwatthama who is cursed for eternity.

Kalki 2898 AD traces mythological connection. The film begins with Mahabharat and ends in Kali yug 2898 and so is the title of the film. The movie spans a vast time frame of 6000 years. The director has tried to create worlds that are here, imagining what they could be in future. According to the trailer, the Mahabharat episode features some star cameos with Malvika Nair playing Uttara. Other than this, the movie features the Kalki avatar of Vishnu who is bound to appear at the end of Kali yug and the dawn of Satya Yuga.

Ashwatthama’s character is taken from the Mahabharata which is crucial to the movie, especially given the character of SUM-80. According to Mahabharata, Ashwatthama is cursed by Krishna to roam in the forest until the end of Kali yug.
