Starring Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, the 2014 Hindi romantic comedy drama 2 States, directed by Abhishek Varman and produced by Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala, has glimpses of beautiful Chennai beaches, temples, and tree-canopied streets. The film is based on Chetan Bhagat’s 2009 novel 2 States: The Story of My Marriage, which is about a couple who hail from two different states of India and the hardships they face in convincing their parents for their union. Bhatt plays the role of a Tamil girl and the film takes a tour of Chennai as she moves to her hometown and Kapoor’s character goes to meet her.

Starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, the 2013 action comedy film Chennai Express directed by Rohit Shetty revolves around Rahul Mithaiwala. The story takes you on a journey through Chennai, beautiful landscapes of Tamil Nadu, the Pamban bridge, and several temples of the state as Rahul unintentionally boards the titular train and travels from Mumbai to Rameswaram with the daughter of a local don.
