Bengali movies are known for their philosophical concepts and the portrayal of the most profound emotions. Some Bengali films have got so much love for their story and filmmaking that they have been remade in Hindi also. Hindi movies are often inspired or remade from English movies with a local touch.

Jalebi
Based on the philosophical saga of separation ‘Praktan’, this Bollywood film is a remake with a North Indian touch. This is the story of a couple who get married after falling in love. The husband is a tour guide while the wife is a writer. After their egos clash, they realise they are not fit to stay together. Years after their separation, the woman faces a segment of her tragic past.
Chupke Chupke
Inspired by the Bengali movie ‘Chadmabeshi’, ‘Chupke Chupke’ stars Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra. This movie is about Parimal, a botany professor, and Sulekha, a fan of his who fall in love with each other. However, Sulekha’s obsession with her brother-in-law leads Parimal to dress up as a driver to keep a check on him.
Devdas
The classic novel written by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, ‘Devdas’ is a movie starring Aishwarya Rai, Madhuri Dixit and Shah Rukh Khan. It journeys around the childhood friends Dev and Paro who end up separating when Dev goes abroad for his studies, when he comes back, his family doesn’t accept Paro as his bride. Paro ends up marrying another man and Dev becomes an alcoholic in grief.

Parineeta
Another movie based on the novelist Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s works is ‘Parineeta’. The Bollywood version of the movie stars Vidya Balan and Saif Ali Khan as protagonists. Lalita and Shekhar are childhood friends who realise their love for each other after growing up. However, since Lalita belongs to a middle-class family while Shekhar is the son of a wealthy man, they face complications.
Bawarchi
Based on the Bengali movie ‘Galpa Holeo Satyi’, the Rakesh Khanna starrer ‘Bawarchi’ is about a new house helper who tries to mend an unusual family. The Sharma family scares away the cooks that they hire. Even though they expect the same from Raghu, he turns out to be different.
