On July 3, 2023, retired television host Sophie Grégoire Trudeau and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced their separation on social media. After being together for 18 years, the couple has decided to part ways.
The statement on their official handles read,
“Hi everyone,
Justin and I would like to share the fact that after many meaningful and difficult conversations, we have decided to separate.
As always, we remain a close family with deep love and respect for each other and for everything we have built and will continue to build.
For the well-being of our children, we ask that you respect our and their privacy.
Thank you.”

Born in April 1975, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau was the only child of her parents. When she was only four years old, her family shifted to Montreal. Sophie and Justin have known each other since childhood.
Among many classmates in school, Sophie was friends with Michel Trudeau, the youngest son of former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau and brother of Justin. She was also friends with Margaret, the wife of Michel.
At the age of 17, she struggled with bulimia nervosa, also referred to as an eating disorder. She dealt with it in her early 20s, and it took her two years to recover from it. In one of the old interviews, she credited her recovery to yoga and the support of her family and friends. Sophie graduated with a degree in Bachelors in Arts.

You would not believe it if we tell you that Sophie’s first job was as a receptionist at an advertising firm. Soon, she was promoted and became an accountant manager. She continued to be in advertising, public relations, and sales for three years, when she quit her job and decided to study radio and television, which she described in an interview as her ‘calling’.
She was an entertainment reporter and hosted a few television shows. She even worked as a personal shopper for an upscale store called Holt Renfrew. In 2005, she was hired to be a reporter for eTalk, a Canadian entertainment news show. The same year, she married Justin Trudeau.

Philanthropy Work Of Sophie Grégoire Trudeau

Sophie has been an active participant in philanthropy. Over the decades, she has volunteered to be a part of many non-profit organisations and charities in Canada. She is a part of two charities that support the cause of eating disorders, and another one helps out women struggling with high-risk pregnancies.
Sophie is the national ambassador of ‘Because I am a Girl’ initiative, a campaign that addresses the issues of gender discrimination and currently driving plans to help millions of girls come out of poverty. She is the official speaker for The Shield of Athena, an organisation that helps women and children deal with domestic violence.
Sophie Grégoire Trudeau knows three languages, English, French, and Spanish. She is a certified yoga instructor. In one of her recent posts, she wished Happy Pride to the LGBTQIA+ community with a throwback picture of her participating in Toronto’s Pride parade in 2017.
