Most of us are facing acidity problems nowadays. It can be caused due to eating excessively oily, spicy or salty food. Yes, ladies, you need to say bye-bye to all those kachoris, chole bhature, and samosa! I know it’s hard, but you need to control your cravings or you can start doing yoga. Vajrasana (Thunderbolt Pose)

This pose increases blood flow to the stomach and intestine and helps to digest food effectively, even if you have a weak digestive system.

How to do it

  • Sit down on the floor with your knees bend. Make sure your back is straight.
  • Place both your hands on your knees.
  • Hold this position for 15 minutes and concentrate on your breathing.

Pavanamuktasana (Wind- Relieving Pose)

Doing this pose regularly will stimulate your bowel movement which is very necessary for removing waste materials from the digestive system. It is really helpful for people suffering from arthritis, heart problems, and waist pain. Women suffering from menstruation disorder should also do this.

How To Do It

  • Keep your legs straight and lie flat on your back.
  • Lift your legs and bend them while inhaling slowly. Bring your legs towards your chest till the thighs come in contact with your stomach.
  • Hold your knees and lock your hands. Raise your head and try to touch your knees with your forehead.
  • Hold this position for 30 seconds and then relax.

Kapal Bhati Pranayama (Skull Shining Breathing Technique)

You must have seen Ramdev doing this yoga. But do you know why he does it? Regularly doing pranayama releases 80% of the toxins from our body. It also improves the functioning of kidney, enhances blood circulation and helps in curing asthma, sinus and hair loss.

How To Do It

  • Sit comfortably with your back straight. Place your hands on the knees with palms facing the sky.
  • Take a deep breath. For your stomach to go deep inside exhale with force.
  • Try to think that your disorders are coming out from your nose when you exhale with a sort of hissing sound.
  • Don’t stress on inhaling. Just relax your mind. Do this for 15 to 30 minutes in a medium speed.

Anulom Vilom (Alternate Nostril Breathing Technique)

This pranayama is very effective for purifying the body and mind. This exercise boosts your body energy, loses weight and releases anxiety and stress. It should ideally be practiced in the morning in the open air and on an empty stomach.

How To Do it

  • Sit comfortably on a flat surface.
  • Now use your right thumb to close your right nostril and breath in with the left nostril. Next, close your left nostril using your middle and ring finger, and exhale through the right nostril.
  • Repeat this process again, but next time inhale deeply through the right nostril.
  • Do the same exercise for 5-10 minutes.

Some Other Tips To Cure Acidity And Gas

While yoga is a great way to cure acidity and gastric problems. But by combining these yogas with some simple lifestyle changes, one can easily see great results in their overall gastric health.

  • Say bye-bye to all the oily and spicy foods.
  • Include more fruits and raw vegetables in your diet.
  • Go for a walk after having a meal.
  • Avoid having meals right before bedtime.
  • Reduce the intake of coffee.
  • Stop taking tobacco and alcohol, and increase the consumption of water, buttermilk and coconut water.
