Sleeping On Your Stomach

If your favorite position is tummy-down, then it’s perfectly fine until your second trimester. But once your tummy starts appearing you’ll have to switch positions.

Sleeping On Your Back

Doctors recommend pregnant women to avoid sleeping on their backs during second and third trimesters. Sleeping on your back can rest the entire weight of the growing uterus and baby on your back, intestines and vena cava. The Vena cava is the main vein that carries blood back to the heart from your lower body. This pressure can cause backaches, hemorrhoids and low blood pressure, which can make you dizzy. It can also reduce the blood circulation in your body, which results in less oxygen and nutrients for the baby.

Sleeping On Your Right Side

The liver is on the right side of your body. So, sleeping on your right side can mounts pressure on the organ. This can curb its natural functioning and choke the liver. As a mother-to-be, you would want nothing to come between your child and his nutrition. Hence, you should make more space for your organs to function manually.

Sleeping On Your Left Side

During the second and third trimesters, sleeping on the left side is the best position for you and your child. This position allows for maximum blood flow and nutrients to the baby, by giving less pressure on the vena cava. It also enhances kidney function, which means better digestion and less swelling in your feet, ankles, and hands.
