More than 90 per cent of women in Indiasufferfrom UTI and other washroom borne diseases every year. Hence, came the toilet seat sanitizer spray which has helped women reducing the risk of contracting infections from public washrooms. Srijana Bagaria, Co-founder at Pee Safe told HerZindagi that the idea of starting the hygiene brand, was inspired by my own personal experience during a road trip in 2013.
While her husband and the co-founder of the brand Vikas Bagaria, were travelling to Gujarat, they had to come back to Delhi leaving the journey mid-way. After reaching Delhi and consulting with the Doctor, they came to know that Srijana had contracted UTI. Despite staying at the best of hotels and eating at the best places, she still had to undergo this.
'We realised this happened because of the invisible bacteria on a toilet seat which looked clean but was not sanitised. After studying, we realised, this problem is huge. The subject has been accepted among the consumers, well in India. I am happy to share that people have started paying attention to their personal hygiene
When we talk about washroom infections, there are two types of it. UTI is Urinary Tract Infection and RTI is Reproductive Tract Infection, both can be dangerous and there are ways to prevent them to attack one’s body by following proper daily hygiene. There is an immense need to spread awareness among masses about how it is important to prevent yourself from dangerous E. Coli Bacteria which increases in size by the time and attacks the body.
Understanding the need of the hour and modern lifestyle among women, these are a few things they should definitely adopt:
- Keep washroom borne infections at bay by using toilet seat sanitizer sprays.
- Maintain daily intimate using a natural intimate wash.
- Take care of overall daily hygiene and drink a lot of water to keep yourself hydrated.
- Use alcohol-free hand sanitizer to avoid germs in hand and especially before eating.
- Use Natural Mosquito repellent sprays during the season of summer and monsoon while going out/travelling.
Hurdles Faced When It Came To Explaining Female hygiene
In the past 5 years, both government and private players in this industry have been highly vocal about ‘female hygiene’ both offline and online. Major hurdle initially for Pee Safe has been 'creating awareness' among people. Being a personal hygiene brand, we focus on providing products related to daily hygiene among both men and women but not just products for women to be used during their menstruation cycle. To capture the market in the hygiene sector, we have been doing a lot of campaigns both offline and online to promote our brand and have seen positive results in terms of consumer acceptance.
Is There A Link Between Female Hygiene & Female Empowerment?
Women play an integral role in society and have multiple roles to play as a human being. We all have been speaking about ways to empower women, but I believe any great change in you is initiated by your own self. To keep our self-healthy and safe, we need to follow the right habits for ourselves to make that possible. I also believe, if a woman follows daily hygiene, she is less likely to get ill and is automatically empowered.
Making the product available at the right time to the audience along with creating awareness through offline and online campaigns resulted in great response overall. The release of Bollywood movies like ‘Toilet Ek Prem Katha’ in August 2017 and ‘Padman’ in February 2018 has helped us positively leaving Indian masses to think about their hygiene and necessity of such products to keep them safe and healthy.

It is important to take care of personal hygiene as it makes you stronger and keeps diseases at bay.
Besidesusing the right products there are certain habits you need to adopt as well. Do follow this as during festivities when you are using public toilets, feminine hygieneis crucial.
Material Or Fabric Of Your Undergarment
Shopping for your panties is usually fun as there is so much variety available in the market. The synthetic ones look pretty and sexy but the material is not at all friendly for feminine hygiene. If you have to wear it for a short while, then its fine but for a longer duration, we recommend cotton all the way. The reason why synthetic or nylon is not good is that the material does not let you breathe, it encourages sweat and retains fluids against the skin. Whereas cotton provides less room for bacteria formation and reduces sweat.
Wipe It Right
Are you sure you have been wiping the right way? Cystitis often crops up thanks to the bacteria that live in the colon making its way to our urethra (from where we pee), and since it does not belong there, it can cause UTIs. Therefore make sure you wipe yourself the proper way down there. The easiest way to do so is to wipe from top bottom and not bottom to top.
