Why use pads and struggle with the heavy flow days when you can battle it out with other alternatives which are cheaper and more durable? Some of the alternatives are safe even when you are swimming! Did you know that? On the occasion of Menstrual Hygiene Day 2020, here is a list of some amazing and easily available alternatives to make it easier for you... actually us women. Scroll down and you will find out!
Tampons
Tampons are the easiest to get your hands on as they easily available in the market and online. They are available in different sizes, according to your flow which could be mini to super. Oh, and they can be carried easily in your bag as well. Yes I understand that inserting a foreign object is weird and awkward at first but they are super comfortable! You will not even realise that they are there. This is recommended for women who are sexually active as they have to be inserted.
The best thing about them is that you can swim, shower and bath with tampons in, and you won’t even know they’re there. However, remember to change your tampon every four to eight hours, or you may face the risk of toxic shock syndrome (TSS). Never go longer than eight hours without changing your tampon.
Menstrual Cup
A fairly new product in the market, this one is quickly becoming popular. Many actresses also use them like Dia Mirza. They are hygienic, don't need to be disposed of either. It’s a silicone or rubber cup that you have to insert into your vagina, which catches the menstrual blood. You can rinse menstrual cups and reuse them, making them economical, eco-friendly and gentler on your body. These cups can be messy at first but once you get a hang of it, it becomes easier.

Washable/Reusable Cloth Pads
Cotton pads are a very good alternative to the regular disposable pads that we use. They are made up of cotton layers and are encased in the waterproof fabric so you don’t have to worry about leaks. The wings keep them in place and are equally comfortable. They are environment-friendly and healthier than other options as they can be reused.
Panty Liners
Not all pads are big and bulky. These liners are thin and small and a very good alternative if you have very light flow or have spotting. They are the best if you are sure your periods are light like the last two days they will suffice.
