In appreciating the creation of the human body as a magical apparatus, it's vital to understand that hormones regulate metabolism, growth and development, tissue function, reproduction, sleep and mood – all of these among many other things.
Grandmaster Akshar told HerZindagi that "in our daily lifestyle, we forget that the production and maintenance of these subtle, yet complex hormones are vital for a healthy body and a happy mind. What we call our “endocrine system”, orchestrates a complex system of secretion and regulation of a series of hormones, part of which is the pituitary gland (located at the base of the brain).
"Every cell in the body depends upon this gland for the regulation of its metabolism. The pituitary gland produces Thyroid-stimulating Hormones (TSH) and regulates the function of the thyroid gland."
"Thyroid gland simply takes iodine found in many foods, and to convert it into thyroid hormones (T4 & T3). These hormones are then released into the bloodstream and transported throughout the body where they control metabolism – a process of conversion of oxygen and calories into energy.
"When the level of T3 and T4 drops too low, the pituitary gland produces TSH which then stimulates the thyroid gland to produce more hormones," he added.
Here are a few simple asanas suggested by him, that can help regulate the TSH in circulation, by stimulating the endocrine glands.
