Do you feel sluggish after a long day’s work? Do your joints feel stiff in winter season? Do you have trouble concentrating and feel mentally tired? Well, you are not alone in this misery as long periods of working, poor sleep quality and absence of a daily exercise regime in our daily routine can make all our bodies sluggish and age faster. Sounds scary? Worry not as the ancient science of Ayurveda has secrets that can benefit your body in more ways than one.

What Ayurveda Says About Fitness And Health

According to Ayurveda, exercising daily benefits us as it brings sthiratva or stability for our physical and mental wellbeing. It does so by keeping our metabolism active by clearing the transport channels or shrotas in the body which results in decongestion and less stress. Exercise clears and strengthens the ‘shrotas’ (transport channels in the physiology in which metabolism takes place); blockages and congestion are relieved, stress is reduced, and our sense of wellbeing is improved.

  • Vata Type: People with this type of body are slim with fine limbs. Exercises with fast movements and doing light sports for 15 to 20 minutes continuously is right for them. So walking, cycling, dancing and swimming are some activities that people with vata type body should opt for. Winter time is not good for them so they should workout indoors preferably.
  • Pitta Type: Having a pitta type body means such people can exercise for longer hours as their body can manage the heat production easily. They have moderate to vigorous physique and can easily do swimming as well as climbing, cycling, jogging and team sports.
  • Kapha Type: Having a solid built, people with this body type can do intense and long workout sessions but they usually are a bit lazy. Regular exercise is a must for them which may include long distance running, rowing or jogging.
