"There have been various studies about this topic that hint towards positive results that exercises can help in improving fertility," stated Dr. Jagriti Varshney, M.S. Obstetrics & Gynaecology (@theaccidentalgynaec).

There are various mechanisms through which physical activity or exercise can have a positive effect on fertility.

How Exercise Can Help In Fertility

According to Dr. Varshney, ovulatory dysfunction is one of the main causes of infertility. But exercising can influence ovarian function by altering the production of oestrogen and other steroid hormones by the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Ovarian Axis, which is the principal access that regulates all the reproductive functions in the body.

Not only that, but exercise also enhances our body's lipid profile, reduces inflammation, optimises our BMI (Body Mass Index), and changes our energy balance, all of which contribute to increased fertility.

Being healthy and fit helps women conceive, according to Dr. Sheibba Mittal, Obstetrics and Gynecology at Fortis Hospital (@drsheibbamittal). So moderate exercise such as brisk walking, swimming, yoga, dance, and Pilates not only helps women keep their weight under control, but also increases a woman's chances of getting pregnant.

Exercising is especially good for women who are suffering from PCOS.

Dr. Mittal also emphasised the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle both before and during pregnancy. She said, “staying active before and throughout pregnancy helps decrease the incidence of certain complications including gestational diabetes and hypertension during pregnancy.

Regular workout is also essential for maintaining mental health as workout releases endorphins, which promote feelings of well-being and happiness. All these factors play an important role in conceiving a child.
