When you think of Indian wedding outfits, you think of the quintessential red colour. The red embellished lehengas and sarees are the ideal wedding outfits for most Indian brides. The traditional hue has its own charm, however while we consciously try to add this colour in every part of the wedding, there is a whole new trend that breaks the convention of choosing red. Here are celebrity brides who chose to experiment with a different colour for their wedding day:

Alia Bhatt

Alia Bhatt wore a lovely Sabyasachi ensemble and joined the ranks of tons of celebrity brides who also chose Sabyasachi for their big day. However, while the other Bollywood brides opted for a lehenga, the Darlings actor chose an ivory-coloured sari with a matching half-sleeved blouse. The organza sari was embroidered with fine tilla work and had a handwoven tissue veil.

Her wedding look also incorporated Sabyasachi Heritage Jewellery, which included a gold choker, jhumkas, and bangles. Her hair was styled half-up and half-down, adorned with a beautiful matha patti. The celebrity bride’s makeup was done by Puneet B Saini, who kept it minimal with a dewy base and nude lipstick.

In an interview with Vogue, designer Anamika Khanna said that Rajput’s wedding lehenga was a collaboration of ideas between both of them. “She was very clear that she wanted something gentle and more pastel – nothing that would devour her,” she said.

Following that, they developed a pink pastel lehenga, which came with a short-sleeved blouse and a beautifully embroidered skirt.

Khanna added that the lehenga was an amalgamation of exquisite artisanship and centuries-old design. “It featured embedded 3D flowers, pearls, floral embroidery with French knots and interwoven delicate zardozi work. With the help of 67 artisans, it took us about 48 days to make the bridal lehenga.”

Rajput styled it with two dupattas – one draped as a sari and one tulle dupatta covering her head. She even picked navratna jewellery, which are crafted using nine different gemstones to add a pop of colour to her outfit.
