When Bollywood meets the Met, it’s nothing short of a sartorial spectacle. Over the years, a select few stars from Bollywood have graced the Met Gala red carpet, and turned heads with their debut appearances. In this article, we rewind the glitz and glamour of the most memorable debut moments of Bollywood celebrities at the Met Gala over years.
Deepika Padukone’s Gleaming Goddess Moment (2017)
Who could forget when Deepika Padukone made her Met Gala debut in 2017, floating onto the carpet like a pearlescent dream? Padukone was dressed by Tommy Hilfiger in her customised satin slip gown. But it wasn’t just the gown that had fashion lovers gasping, it was the craftsmanship.
The jewel-encrusted straps were more than mere embellishments as they wove across her back into a tantalisingly asymmetrical silhouette. But the pièce de résistance? Her hair, adorned with brooches arranged into the illusion of a diamond-studded crown. She sealed the look with a pair of statement drop earrings that added to her majestic minimalism.
Priyanka Chopra’s Trench Coat That Shut Down the Internet (2017)
Also in 2017, Priyanka Chopra gave a proper Bollywood entrance at the Met steps, dramatic, commanding, and completely unforgettable. She donned a custom Ralph Lauren trench coat gown that came with a mile-long train.

She made her look keenly sharp with black heels, a sleek updo, and a smouldering makeup look. Her debut was more of a style declaration as she turned a trench coat into high couture theatre.
Alia Bhatt’s Pearl-Soaked Tribute to Karl Lagerfeld (2023)
Fast forward to 2023, and enter Alia Bhatt! For her Met Gala debut, Alia chose a silhouette steeped in fashion lore: a corseted couture ball gown once worn by Claudia Schiffer at the bridal finale of Karl Lagerfeld’s Fall 1992 couture collection. Reinvented by master couturier Prabal Gurung, her look was not just couture, it was a love letter to Lagerfeld himself.
100,000 pearls hand-embroidered into the gown made it shimmer like a dream spun in moonlight. Her heels, too, followed the pearl theme, encrusted and elegant, by ASAxSko, and her jewellery truly whispered luxury! Her ring stack (crafted by Alice Cicolini x Malabar Gold and Diamonds with stylist Anaita Shroff Adajania) featured a jaw-dropping rose-cut diamond centrepiece surrounded by a twinkling constellation of diamonds, finished with a pearl tassel.

To complete the look, Bhatt opted for a pair of custom embellished gloves by Outhouse, dotted with Karl-esque embroidery motifs, and statement earrings that delivered just the right punch of drama.
