You don’t need to be deep into fashion to know who Anna Wintour is. For over three decades, she’s been the woman behind some of the most iconic Vogue covers, making and breaking trends with just one eyebrow lift. Now, after 37 long years, the fashion powerhouse has announced she's stepping down as the editor-in-chief of American Vogue. While she’s not disappearing entirely, this shift does feel like the end of an era. But before we look ahead, let’s take a moment to appreciate how Indian designers, under her global vision, managed to grace the covers of one of the most prestigious fashion magazines in the world.
Anna Wintour, 75, revealed to her team that she will no longer handle the day-to-day editorial reins of American Vogue. In a new role as head of editorial content, she is set to take over the regular running of the magazine. However, she’s not exactly packing up her bob and sunglasses. Wintour will continue her reign from a higher perch as Condé Nast’s chief content officer and Vogue’s global editorial director.
It’s a big shift for fashion, and honestly, the end of Wintour’s daily involvement does feel like a big fashion moment in itself.
Back in March 2018, Kim Kardashian made jaws drop as she posed for Vogue India wearing none other than a fiery red Sabyasachi saree. The saree was part of his stunning 'Aakash-tara' collection and featured his signature hand embroidery. Seeing one of the world’s most-watched women draped in Indian craftsmanship was a truly iconic moment.
Gaurav Gupta’s architectural gowns are always a red carpet favourite, and in this case, they went international. Model Simona Kust appeared on the cover of Vogue Portugal dressed in one of Gupta’s striking couture pieces. The look was bold, fluid, and futuristic and everything Gupta stands for.
