The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has released the eligibility criteria for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2025. For Indian nationals, there are five key eligibility conditions for JEE Advanced, which include performance in JEE Main 2025, age restrictions, number of attempts, appearance in the Class 12 examination, and previous admission to IITs. JEE Advanced 2025: Eligibility Criteria
Below are the revised eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced 2025, as per the official website of JEE:
Performance in JEE (Main) 2025
To qualify for JEE Advanced, candidates must rank among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates (across all categories) in the BE/BTech paper (paper 1) of JEE Main 2025. This includes 10 percent from the General-EWS category, 27 percent from OBC-NCL, 15 percent from SC, 7.5 percent from ST, and 40.5 percent from the open category. Furthermore, each category will have a 5 percent horizontal reservation for PwD candidates.
Here is the category-wise allocation of candidates (including horizontal reservations for PwD candidates):
- Open: 1,01,250
- General-EWS: 25,000
- OBC-NCL: 67,500
- SC: 37,500
- ST: 18,750
The total number of candidates may slightly exceed 2,50,000 if there are tied ranks or scores in any category, as noted by IIT Kanpur.

Age Limit
Candidates should be born on or after October 1, 2000. SC, ST, and PwD candidates are eligible for five-year age relaxation, meaning those born on or after October 1, 1995, can also apply for the exam.
Number of Attempts
Candidates are allowed to attempt JEE Advanced a maximum of three times, within three consecutive years.
Appearance in Class 12 (or Equivalent) Examination
The candidate must have appeared for the Class 12 (or equivalent) exam for the first time in 2023, 2024, or 2025, with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as mandatory subjects.
Candidates who appeared for the Class 12 exam for the first time in 2022 or earlier are not eligible for JEE Advanced 2025.
Earlier Admission at IITs
Candidates who have previously been admitted to an IIT under any academic program listed in the JoSAA business rules of 2024 or earlier are not eligible. Those whose IIT admission was canceled after joining are also ineligible. However, candidates who were admitted to a preparatory course at an IIT for the first time in 2024 are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2025.

Candidates who were allotted a seat in an IIT through JoSAA but did not report online, withdrew before the final round of seat allotment, or had their seat canceled before the last round are also eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2025.
How To Apply For JEE Main 2025?
Step 1: Go to the official website – jeemain.nta.nic.in
Step 2: On the homepage, click on the link that says, “Online Application Form for JEE (Main) – 2025 Session-1”
Step 3: Click on the ‘New Registration’ tab and enter the required details to register
Step 4: Log in using the system-generated registration number and password, then complete the application form
Step 5: Pay the application fee and submit the form
Step 6: Take a printout of the completed application form for future reference.
