Taste Atlas released its list of the 100 worst delicacies in the world recently. Surprisingly, at the top of this rather peculiar list is Iceland’s ‘Hakari’ which is a dish made out of shark meat, particularly sleeper sharks. The meat is fermented over a period of three months. This is followed by four to five months of hanging and drying. Despite its rather strong flavour, ‘Hakari’ is considered to be a delicacy which is an acquired taste and is best accompanied with a shot of brennivin which is a local liquor.
Other unexpected dishes that made it to the list include a ramen burger originating from the lanes of Brooklyn; Newzealand’s marmite chip and sandwiches; Spain’s Bocadillo de carne de Caballo which is a traditional horse meat sandwich; Finland’s Ryynimakkara which is a sausage made with oats and fat and many more.

Indian Foodies Disagree And Share Their Love For ‘Aloo Baigan’:
Indian foodies, netizens and culinary experts however cannot come to terms with their beloved ‘aloo baigan’ being listed amidst the worst food in the world. According to Hindustan Times, Anoothi Vishal who is a leading food historian and writer said, “Baingan with spice is one of the most ancient dishes in the Indian subcontinent. There were some findings from one of the Indian valley sites, where they found remnants in a cooking pot of a dish which had brinjal, turmeric and ginger. These three ingredients together are civilisational! It’s a historical dish. Of course, food is a personal choice and the conclusion is highly subjective. But, Indian food is all about spicing. Aloo baingan might not be the best baingan dish but it’s not the worst, surely.”
