The Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) of South Korea launched a probe after detecting unusual market activity linked to the company. According to officials, the stock value of Siwon School rose dramatically, more than tripling within a mere nine months, prompting concerns of intentional manipulation.

The investigation was further supported by the Korea Exchange (KRX), which noticed erratic trading patterns associated with Siwon School’s stock. What makes this case even more complicated is that a private investment business, which reportedly has connections with Gold Medalist, controls a significant portion of the school’s shares.
Kim Soo-hyun’s Agency Denies Involvement
In response to the allegations, Gold Medalist has firmly denied any involvement in the stock trading activities. They said in a statement, “We are not involved in any of the trading activities related to this stock.”
However, the links between Siwon School and Gold Medalist, along with the support from two separate organisations, have raised questions about the extent of the agency’s involvement.
Siwon School was once considered a stable company on the KOSDAQ, with its stock trading at around 1,000 KRW three years ago. By April of the following year, the stock price had skyrocketed to nearly 10,000 KRW, before eventually falling back to its original value. Such volatile movements have triggered the investigation, with authorities suspecting market manipulation for profit.
Gold Medalist Takes Legal Action To Protect Kim Soo Hyun
On April 15, 2025, Kim Soo Hyun's agency, Gold Medalist, announced that they had filed a criminal complaint with the police on April 14, 2025. The agency highlighted the recent rise in harmful online activity directed at the actor, including false information, defamatory posts, and hurtful comments.
The statement read, “Hello, this is GOLDMEDALIST.
Recently, malicious posts, comments, and false information targeting our artist, Kim Soo Hyun, have been indiscriminately posted and circulated online. In particular, baseless speculative content and unverified claims have been continuously and repeatedly shared, leading the public to form misconceptions and damaging the artist’s reputation.
Malicious slander, the circulation of false information, personal attacks, and sexual harassment, which are rampant on online communities and social media, are criminal acts that should not be taken lightly. Based on active reports from fans regarding malicious actions and our own internal monitoring, we submitted a legal complaint to investigative authorities on April 14 for charges of defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act and for insult under the Criminal Act.
The actions of so-called “cyber wreckers” who exploit anonymity to create fake news and produce cyberbullying-inducing videos and shorts are also a serious concern. As identities of such cyber wreckers are now being revealed and legal action is being taken, we too will respond firmly in coordination with overseas legal representatives against foreign platforms such as YouTube and X (formerly Twitter).
We will continue to file additional complaints against malicious posts that defame our artist’s reputation, and we promise to do our utmost to protect the rights of our artist through strong legal measures against any clear criminal behavior.
