Shreya Ghoshal Songs: The Indian film fraternity and artists were bestowed with the 69th National Film Awards yesterday, August 24, 2023. It was an honour for actors, singers, cinematographers, writers, and others associated with the industry as their work got recognition.
Among many celebrated names was Shreya Ghoshal. The singer needs no introduction as it was the fifth time that she received the award for playback singing. The artist bagged her first National Award in 2003 for ‘Bairy Piya’ in ‘Devdas’. Yesterday, she received the Best Female Playback Singer award for ‘Mayava Chayava’ in ‘Iravin Nizhal’.
Born in 1984, Ghoshal started learning music at the age of four. At the mere age of 16, she participated in the ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’ show and emerged as the winner. Here is a list of five times the singer touched our hearts as a child artist.
Above is a video from an episode of ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’ in which she sang ‘Tumse Milkar Na Jane’ from ‘Pyar Jhukta Nahin’. It was originally sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Shabbir Kumar. In the same episode, judges played a small game with her where they asked her to identify the renowned singers by their images. She has always been a soft-spoken kid.
Originally sung by Lata Mangeshkar, Shreya Ghoshal also sang ‘Kuhu Kuhu Bole Koyaliya’ from ‘Suvarna Sundari’ while she was a contestant in ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’. As seen in the video, she left the judges impressed with her voice and command of the classical notes.
In the above video, the artist is singing ‘Mhara Re Giridhar Gopal’, a famous bhajan dedicated to Lord Krishna. Her soft voice and command of the notes left people listening to her mesmerised.
Ghoshal lends her voice for ‘Bairi Piya’, a playful and romantic song in ‘Devdas’ that captures Paro and Devdas spending quality time. It captures the love they have for each other. She won the National Award for it in 2003.
Ghoshal won the National Award for the ‘Dheere Jalna’ song from ‘Paheli’ She sang it along with singer Sonu Nigam.

Her third National Award came from lending her voice to ‘Yeh Ishq Haaye’ from ‘Jab We Met’. This song captures Kareena Kapoor talking and singing about love and how it shows you heaven on Earth.

In 2010, the singer won the National Award for two songs - ‘Jiva Dangla’ from ‘Jogva’ and ‘Pherari Mon’ from ‘Antaheen’. The first was a Marathi song, and the second was a Bengali song.
In 2023, the singer bagged her fifth National Award for ‘Mayava Chayava’ from ‘Iravin Nizhal’. The song is from a Telugu film, and Ghoshal sang it alongside AR Rahman.
