Shefali's journey in love began in 1995, just as her acting career was taking off. She soon found herself smitten with television actor Harsh Chhaya. Their connection blossomed, and after a brief courtship, they tied the knot in 1997. Sadly, their happily ever after wasn't meant to be. Within a few short years, their relationship faced challenges, and in 2000, they decided to go their separate ways.
Years later, reflecting on the divorce with host Sidharth Kannan, Harsh acknowledged the difficulties, stating, "The separation was pretty tough. Itni puraani kahani hai [It's such an old story]. Itna samay beet gaya hai…bees pachees saal ho gaye hain [So much time has passed...it's been twenty or twenty-five years]. For me, it is a closed chapter."
Shefali, in an interview with Pinkvilla, shared similar sentiments. She spoke openly about the effort she invested in the relationship, saying, "I have given a long long chunk of life to that relationship. I worked very hard and I used to believe that marriages are happily ever after until you realise okay that's a norm, it's a notion. That's not necessarily work in life." She continued, "It was not that whole phase that wasn't making me richer or happier, sane or person. And after a point of time you just realise what is better for you which is better for everyone around. So, not for a second did I think it was because I gave it a lot of time and everything I had in me. And it didn't work out, it didn't work out. It's just too bad. Why ppl make hue and cry about it."
