How many times have you seen actors objectifying their female colleagues on television shows? We are sure you won’t be able to count it because it happens so often. In the name of flirting or chivalry, male actors are often seen crossing a line, which according to them, does not even exist.
In their defence, they were either joking or ‘didn’t mean like that’, but it leaves the person on the receiving end feeling objectified. Khatron Ke Khiladi 13 contestant Soundous Moufakir was recently attending IIFTA Awards in which she claimed that Karanvir Bohra passed a sexist comment.
‘You Take The Award,’ Said Karanvir Bohra

Moufakir was on the stage receiving an award. She was delivering a thank you speech. At the end, another host complimented her Hindi accent and referred to Bohra saying she should get an award for it.
Bohra replied, “Tu ye award le ja (You take the award).” The other host extended his hands towards Moufakir to confirm with Bohra, “Should I take this (Soundous Moufakir) award?”
It left Moufakir baffled, and she said to the other host, see how Bohra is talking.

Sharing her story, the Khatron Ke Khiladi contestant said that host Karanvir Bohra objectified her. She added, “This is a common objectification faced by multiple women inside this industry and outside, all over the world.”
While slamming Bohra, the actor said, “So let me just say this - I’m not an award, I’m not a trophy, I’m not something you can just joke about taking home.”
“You cannot joke about taking me home,” she added in another story.
Bohra Issued Clarification

In his response, Bohra said that when he told the host to take the award home, he was asking him to take any award home and not to flirt with the actor. He took the comment in another way.
Bohra said that it was the other host who objectified Moufakir and not him. He added that if the actor had to slam anyone it should be the other host.

Objectification Of Women In Indian Society
Women become the easy target of objectification because of their clothing, makeup, and life choices. When you refer to your daughter as ‘paraya dhan’, you are calling her an asset. You are telling her that she belongs to someone else or that her husband and in-laws will be in charge of her after marriage.
When a woman grows up, she becomes a subject of talk because of her figure, dress, and makeup. In the street language, men call women ‘maal’, ‘tota’, ‘fuljhari’, and whatnot. When called out, they say that they were complimenting. We cannot draw a line between what qualifies as flattery and offence. We treat women as if they are a piece of property or a showpiece.
In several incidents, actors like Jennifer Aniston, Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt, Anushka Sharma, and others have often come forward and spoken their minds. While women continue their fight for dignity, men keep passing sexist comments in the disguise of ‘I’m Joking!’
