After Cardi B Fan's Ungracious Move, Here's An Etiquette Guide For Celeb Buffs Who Find It Hard To Be Bare Minimum Civil

While American rapper Cardi B was performing at Drai’s Beachclub in Las Vegas, an attendee hurled a drink at her. The move didn't go down well with the star and she retaliated in a jiffy by throwing her microphone at the person. Cardi B's security team quickly jumped in and rushed the attendee out of the concert.

The concert goer's uncivil act has once again sparked a debate over fans trespassing their boundaries with celebrities. Sadly, this is not the first time an international celebrity was attacked by a fan. Previously too, many stars including Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears, Justin Bieber, Beyonce, Gigi Hadid, and Ariana Grande have been harassed.

Is Civility Too Much Of An Ask?

In India too, the lines between stars and fans have only been getting thinner over time. All for the selfie with singer Sonu Nigam, a fan pushed him off stage along with his friend Rabbani Khan during a live event in Chembur, a few months back. A female fan forcibly attempted to kiss actor Aditya Roy Kapoor during his meet and greet with fans outside a theatre in Mumbai. Singer Arijit Singh's hand was pulled by a fan during his concert, leaving his hand injured. The nasty episodes just don't seem to stop.

What Cardi B experienced is just another addition to the list. The internet stands divided. While some are applauding Cardi B for taking a stand for herself, others feel she overreacted in self-defence. Before having a take, get this - an attendee pays up for a concert, and throws a drink at the performer while they are in the middle of their act. Some do it to call attention, some out of vengeance but at the end of the day, it is the star who has to bear the brunt of it and in return, if the celebrity loses their cool and retaliates, the public is quick to label them 'arrogant' or 'snooty'.

Crossing The Line Is Not Okay!

Touching a celebrity inappropriately in the name of love, pestering a star just for a selfie, hurling things at a star just because they are in public glare and, being a stage invader to hug your favourite star isn't okay.

If you invade a star's personal space, and make them feel uncomfortable, unsafe in the name of admiration or disapproval for them, you are likely to be at the receiving end of incivility too. However, that too often backfires and leads to celebrity hate.

Celebrities have to pay a big price for being part of the showbiz and incidents of them being attacked now and then serve as proof of it. Fans and haters alike feel they are entitled to the star's attention. This toxic culture has prevailed for years both offline and online and there seems no end to it.

Attacking celebrities in public seems like a new trend and it all roots from people forgetting their boundaries. You’d hate it if someone attacked you, you won’t like it if someone attacks you in the name of regard for you, right? Famous people won’t like it too, don’t do that!

Seeing a celebrity in person can be overwhelming and with fans crossing the line, misbehaving with stars globally is proof that they need to be schooled on how to act around them.

No matter how hard it is, do your bit, be respectful. For starters, don't take their pictures without permission. Celebrities live in the public glare and with fame come challenges like dealing with people who photograph them without consent.

Be Mindful Of Their Privacy

Work is a part of their life, not vice versa. However, it can be taxing for some to come to terms with the fact. While celebrities are off-duty, trying to get away from the limelight, many are like, privacy, what’s that? In a jiffy, pictures, and videos of celebrities doing something, or being at a certain place with someone go viral on the internet.

Be Respectful

Just like us, celebrities have their personal space too and it isn't appropriate to get into it just for some attention. Even if your heart gets swamped with love or hate (case in point - Cardi B) for them, keep a hold on it and remember to be respectful.

Keep A Hold On Your Feelings

Don't get furious if they don't reciprocate. They might not have the time to speak with you or get a picture clicked with you. That shouldn't take away your respect for them.

You spot your favourite celebrity around the city, and you quickly run to them and end up pestering them by talking to them for too long or asking them to pose for one selfie after the other. Even if you take them as public property, remember that you aren't alone. Many other fans wait to do the same with their favourite celebs. If you can't respect the star's space, at least, respect others like you.
