For the unversed, certain netizens had earlier started a hate campaign against the movie and the first song, Besharam Rang with #BoycottPathaan. Social media users along with many Hindu right wing supporters had condemned the song, Besharam Rang citing that the song endorsed vulgarity as Padukone danced to the beats of the track in a saffron hued monokini.

The entire boycott campaign began when the makers released Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer song Besharam Rang. While some called out the makers of the movie for releasing a track that lacked creativity, others said that it made fun of Indian culture and traditions.

More than the beats and cinematography of the track, it was the costumes and their colour that many felt was objectionable. Many BJP and Hindutva leaders came forward and shared their take on the track. Majority of them believed that the outfits worn by Padukone were insulting towards Hinduva. Many also cited that it was a crime the Pathaan makers committed by making Padukone don saffron colour for the song.

BJP leader Rajesh Kesarwani called Besharam Rang an insult to the Hindu community. He said, “Vulgarity with saffron colour was being committed in a song in the movie and it is an insult to the Hindu community and Sanatan culture. Hence, we have expressed our concern.”

Apparently, Deepika's saffron bikini and Khan's green shirt hinted at love jihad. Multiple complaints against Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, and the makers have been filed for hurting Hindu sentiments.
