Most of us are careful about applying sunscreen on our faces, but what about the rest of our body? We spoke to Dr. Yogessh, the founder of Yogez, skincare expert and former VP R&D at L’Oréal, Marico, and P&G. He strongly advises using SPF beyond just the face. "The sun does not discriminate, and neither should your sun protection," he explains. The harmful effects of UVA and UVB rays, including premature ageing, hyperpigmentation, and skin cancer, affect every exposed part of the skin.
To understand this better, I decided to test Yogez’s La Mu Shu Face and Body Radiance Lotion SPF30. Unlike many body sunscreens, which feel greasy or heavy, this one had a light, moisturising texture that absorbed quickly without leaving a white cast. But beyond the texture, the main goal was skin protection.
5 Reasons You Must Add SPF To Your Bodycare Regime
Here’s why SPF should be an essential part of your bodycare routine.
1. Protects Against Harmful UVA And UVB Rays
Sun exposure causes both short-term and long-term skin damage. "UVA rays penetrate deep into the skin, causing premature ageing, while UVB rays cause sunburn and increase the risk of skin cancer," says Dr. Yogessh. Many people assume that SPF 50 is much better than SPF 30, but according to Dr. Yogessh, SPF 30 blocks about 97% of UVB rays, while SPF 50 blocks around 98%—a small difference. What really matters is reapplication every two hours, especially if you're sweating or swimming. When using La Mu Shu SPF30 on my arms and legs, I noticed that it provided a comfortable layer of protection without feeling sticky, even in humid weather.
2. Prevents Premature Ageing
Skin ageing isn’t just about wrinkles on the face. "The sun accelerates collagen breakdown, causing fine lines and sagging skin on the body," explains Dr. Yogessh. Hands, arms, and the neck often show ageing signs earlier than the face because they are frequently exposed but rarely protected.
3. Reduces Hyperpigmentation And Dark Spots
Prolonged sun exposure leads to dark spots, uneven skin tone, and hyperpigmentation. "SPF helps regulate melanin production and prevents excess pigmentation," says Dr. Yogessh. La Mu Shu SPF30 contains Red Raspberry Seed Oil and Carrot Seed Oil, which are known for their brightening and soothing properties. While I didn’t notice an immediate change in pigmentation, it definitely kept my skin hydrated and even-toned over time.
4. Prevents Skin Cancer
UV radiation is one of the biggest risk factors for skin cancer. "Regular use of broad-spectrum SPF can significantly reduce this risk," says Dr. Yogessh. Many people think they don’t need sunscreen indoors, but UV rays penetrate through windows, affecting your skin even when you’re inside.

5. Maintains Skin Hydration And Health
Most sunscreens leave the skin dry and flaky, but La Mu Shu SPF30 is enriched with Moringa Oil and Sea Buckthorn Oil, which moisturise while protecting the skin. I noticed that my skin stayed soft throughout the day, which made it easier to apply sunscreen consistently.

Final Thoughts
SPF is not just for your face. As Dr. Yogessh rightly says, "If you’re only protecting half your skin, you’re only doing half the job." After using La Mu Shu Face and Body Radiance Lotion SPF30, I found it to be a lightweight, everyday sunscreen that didn’t feel greasy or leave a white cast. It’s easy to apply, making it a practical choice for daily sun protection.
