In the search for flawless skin, many people turn to a variety of skincare products, but what if the key to achieving glowing skin was hiding in your fruit bowl? Papaya is one of the most healthy fruits that most of us have in our daily routine. And Papaya seeds, often discarded, are emerging as a potent ingredient in skincare routines. Papaya seeds are rich in proteins, vitamins, and minerals. They also contain polyphenols and flavonoids that are powerful antioxidants. To shed light on this we spoke with Dr. Rohini Patil, MBBS & Nutritionist Founder Of Nutracy Lifestyle, who shared some valuable insights on this.
Papaya Seed Benefits For Skin
Nutritional Powerhouse
Papaya seeds, the small, black, and peppercorn-like seeds found inside the papaya fruit, are rich in essential nutrients that contribute to skin health. They contain a high concentration of antioxidants, vitamins (such as vitamin C), and minerals. These components help combat oxidative stress and inflammation, which are common culprits in premature aging and skin damage.
Skin Exfoliation
One of the standout benefits of papaya seeds is their exfoliating properties. The seeds are naturally abrasive, making them an excellent option for exfoliating the skin. Exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells, promoting cell turnover and revealing a brighter complexion. The enzyme papain, present in the papaya itself, enhances this effect by breaking down proteins and dissolving dead skin cells.
How To Use:
The expert says, "Grind the papaya seeds into a fine powder. Mix with a carrier oil or a small amount of honey, if preferred. Massage your skin in circular motions. Rinse with lukewarm water." This mask not only exfoliates but also nourishes the skin.

Skin Lightening
Papaya seeds can lighten the skin and make skin clear due to the exfoliative action of seeds and natural enzymes in the shape of papain. Papaya seeds can be used in skin moisturizing because of the natural oils in the seeds.
How To Use:
As per the expert, “First grind papaya seeds into a fine paste. Mix with lemon juice 1 teaspoon; honey 1 tablespoon. Apply it to the face and leave for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with warm water.”

Helps With Anti-Aging
Papaya seeds are also beneficial for their skin repair properties. The expert mentioned that “Papaya seeds are a rich source of antioxidants such as vitamins A, C, and E that combat free radicals which cause premature aging. They also contain alpha-hydroxy acids that help rejuvenate skin cells.” They can help soothe irritated skin and reduce redness.
How To Use:
“First mix well-ground papaya seeds with a little papaya pulp and a bit of yoghurt. Apply the paste on the face and leave for 10-15 minutes. Rinse off using lukewarm water,” says the expert
Note: While papaya seeds offer numerous benefits, it is essential to use them with caution. Always do a patch test before using papaya seeds in your skincare routine to ensure you do not have an allergic reaction. If you have any serious skin conditions, consult with a dermatologist
