Holi is a festival of colours known for spreading joy throughout the country. Most of the citizens of India celebrate the festival of Holi in a grand manner. But while it is fun to play with the bright colours, the chemicals in the colours tend to cause damage to our skin and especially our hair. If you have long hair, Holi and celebrating Holi may be a nightmare for you. But there are ways you can protect your hair and do aftercare to minimise the damage. Read on to learn more about some hair care tips to follow after playing Holi.
Oil, Oil, Oil!
Asians, especially South Asians, i.e, us Indians, have always been envied for our long, healthy, luscious dark hair. One of the secrets behind our beautiful and long hair is coconut oil. Generation after generation our mothers have oiled and braided our hair which has led to us having healthy and smooth hair. Coconut oil is an amazing ingredient that aids in increasing the length of hair, reducing dandruff and also to provide a protective layer on the hair.
Oiling your hair properly the night before you play Holi, creates a greasy but protective layer on your hair that protects it from the chemicals of the colours and minimises damage. The grease from the oil also doesn’t allow the colour to sit on your hair for long and it washes off easily once you shampoo your hair.
Wear A Cap
It may seem impossible but wear a cap or a bandana to protect your hair from the colours and dyes, while you play Holi. If you think a cap will easily fall off, tie a tight scarf or bandana around your hair to protect the majority of your hair from the harmful ingredients of the dyes and colours used to celebrate Holi.

This enables your hair to be compact and prevents colour particles from getting inside and reaching the depths of your hair. This is a great way toreduce damageto your hair during Holi. If possible it would be best to tie your hair in a tight bun and protect it with a net while you play Holi. Doing this also prevents you from dealing with the mess of cleaning up a huge amount of colour from your hair later.
