A set of sparkling white teeth is something we all want as it reflects on our hygiene as well as personality. However, when we love our tea, coffee, smoking so much, we don't realise but these foods and drinks and habits do stain our teeth. To remove those stains either we head to the dentist and spend a lot of money or buy those tooth whitening strips which sometimes do not suit us. So to combat this issue, there are some remedies that Ayurveda suggests and some dietary options as well that will work if you follow them regularly.
Ayurvedic Treatments
Babul Twigs
These twigs are extremely useful when it comes to the whitening of teeth. Ayurveda stresses a lot on the importance of these twigs which are more like disposable toothbrushes. Babul has tannin which makes the teeth whiter.
Banyan Roots
The aerial roots of the banyan are excellent as well like babul, for tooth whitening. The banyan roots are astringent which increases the whiteness of the teeth and also works on the health of the teeth and gums.
Basil
Use the powder of dried basil leaves for brushing teeth. The leaves are useful for maintaining dental hygiene and increases the whiteness of the teeth. Besides the whitening, basil also protects against dental problems like bleeding of gums.
Neem
The neem tree is a traditional remedy to get white healthy teeth. Neem twigs are still used by many Indians as toothbrushes. Neem oils possess astringent and antiseptic properties to prevent bad breath, destroy microorganisms present in the teeth and to fight dental caries and cavities.
Dietary Tips
Astringent foods must be a regular part of your diet. All these foods have a sharp effect on the teeth, and this makes our teeth, clean. Astringent foods also prevent the buildup of plaque on the teeth which makes our teeth lose its whiteness.
You have to lessen the amount of sugar intake from your daily diet. Sugary foods of any type, including chocolates are harmful. If you do eat them then wash your mouth properly with by gargling properly.
Restrict the intake of excess tea and coffee. The alkaloids in them can stain the teeth. The same goes for smoking and chewing paan.
Ayurveda Remedies
Mix some babul wood with charcoal, rock salt and roasted alum or fitkari. Rub it on the teeth instead of regular toothpaste. You will get white and healthy teeth.
Use sodium bicarbonate like a tooth powder. It helps in restoring the depleted mineral content of the teeth, and brings back the whiteness.

Strawberries, tomatoes have a lot of vitamin C. They can be applied on our teeth directly. Vitamin C basically clears the plaque from the teeth.
Rub an orange peel on the teeth at night before going to bed. The vitamin C in it will fight the microorganisms until morning.
