Before we dwell into remedies you can try at home, let us understand why we experience constipation.
Reasons For Constipation
The reasons for constipation include,
- If we eat dry, cold, oily and spicy food
- If we do not eat healthy food on time
- If our lifestyle sedentary and does not include physical activities
- If our metabolism is slow
- If we do not drink enough water
- If we eat dinner late in the night
- If our meals do not have enough fibre content
- If we do not sleep on time, wake up on time or do not get enough sleep
Other reasons for constipation can be related to underlying health causes or major lifestyle changes. To overcome constipation or the issue of hard stool, many people consume laxatives, which can cause damage to the intestines. Therefore, you should not consume them unless a doctor prescribes them.
Home Remedies For Constipation
Raisins
Black raisins can be helpful in finding relief from problems related to constipation and hard stool. It has a high amount of fibre which facilitates smooth bowel movements.
Method
Soak black raisins overnight and consume them empty stomach the next morning. Stay wary of eating raisins dry. It can cause gastritis and can be troublesome to digest.
Cow’s Milk
Many research suggest cow’s milk is a natural laxative. This remedy is not suggested for people who are lactose intolerant. However, cow’s milk is considered good for growing kids, pregnant women and adults.
Method
Consume a glass of warm cow’s milk before sleeping. It is a good remedy for people suffering from overproduction of bile juice in the body. It can also help with chronic diarrhoea. You can also consume it with a tablespoon of ghee.
You should know cow’s milk cannot be substituted with buffaloes’ milk or full-cream milk. It can be hazardous.
Juice Of Amla (Indian Gooseberry)

Indian Gooseberry or Amla is rich in vitamin C and acts as a laxative for people trying to get rid of constipation. It is also said to be good for eyes, hair and skin.
Method
You can either take the juice of Indian gooseberry in the morning. You can also consume it in the powdered form early in the morning. In any case, you should regulate its consumption to the prescribed does only.

Ghee (Clarified Butter) Made From Cow’s Milk
Ghee or clarified butter made with cow’s milk is known to improve metabolism. It is a natural laxative too. It contains healthy fat that is essential for the proper functioning of your body. It is rich in vitamin D, E, A and K.
Method
Have a tablespoon of ghee before sleeping or an empty stomach in the morning. You should not replace it with the clarified butter made buffaloes' milk. Please note ghee might not suit everyone.

Fenugreek Seeds
Fenugreek seeds are known to offer relief from stomach-related issues. They aid in weight loss and help with skin and hair issues.
Method
Soak a tablespoon of fenugreek seeds overnight and consume them empty stomach in the morning. If you soak them in the morning then have them with warm water at night. You should consume these seeds dry and not have them at all if you suffer from the issue of overproduction of bile juice.
