South industry superstar Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam’s highly anticipated movie ‘Thug Life’ was released on June 5, 2025, and received a positive response from the audience. Now, it appears that the film might arrive on the OTT platform sooner than expected. 

Thug Life’s Tentative OTT Release Date And Platform

The much-hype gangster drama created a buzz among fans not just for its high budget but also for its incredible storytelling. While the Tamil film was initially slated for release on Netflix eight weeks post-launch, new reports suggest that it will arrive on the streaming platform sooner than expected. According to M9 News, the Tamil film’s OTT debut could be fast-tracked to just four weeks.

Netflix has earlier confirmed acquiring the digital rights of the film given its massive commercial appeal across language markets. The OTT platform is currently aiming to release films in multiple languages to maximise reach, especially in the Hindi-speaking market. Haasan, during the promotional interviews, revealed that the film would hit Netflix after two months to allow for an expansive theatrical run, however, the trade experts argued for an early release. While negotiations are underway, if successful, the film may arrive on OTT in just a month.

Haasan’s film has crossed the Rs 40 crore mark in its 6-day theatrical run. However, the film appeared to be nosediving every day with the fifth day’s earnings standing at Rs 2.3 crore, following the sixth day’s collection which is Rs 1.8 crore (early estimate).
