Before she was Sarah Kim, she might have been Mok Ga‑hui - a salesgirl at Samwol Department Store who shifted through a series of identities as she tried to climb society’s ladder. Each identity helped her step a little higher into the world of luxury, until she constructed the perfect version of herself to be known as - Sarah Kim.
‘The Art of Sarah’ centres on a murder investigation. A body is found with no identification, and the police assume it’s Sarah Kim based on a tattoo and a luxury handbag. “A body found in the middle of town. A luxe label on the rise. A detective tests every stitch of a woman's story that keeps changing. What really happened?”, according to the Netflix synopsis.
As Detective Park Mu‑gyeong played by Lee Joon-hyuk uncovers possible motives, multiple versions of the same story emerge, but none line up cleanly.
Episode 7 and 8 of ‘The Art of Sarah’ shakes the entire case and forces the police to reconsider everything they thought they knew. What follows is a game of legal, emotional, and manipulation. Sarah manages to manipulate the system in such a way that another woman, often believed to be Kim Mi‑jeong, is put on trial for her murder. On paper, this woman is sentenced to prison for Sarah’s death.
But the final twist comes in a short, crucial moment: it’s confirmed that Sarah Kim is alive and in prison herself - having created events to protect her luxury brand Boudoir and her constructed identity. In the last scenes, Detective Park visits her, who asks the simple but powerful question: “Who are you?” As they walk, her face transitions clearly into Sarah Kim’s, signalling that despite everything including lies, identity shifts, and legal games - she is the real Sarah she always wanted to be.
